    gearbox help

hi, i have the gear box m59 from the volvo 480 for my conversion, but i'v seen on a web site that a JB5... from a renault will be better and can handle up-to 250bhp but what it is that i would like to know is it, what is the rest of the numbers or letters on the end of JB5... or witch car that gearbox comes from so i try and see if i can find 1 from a scrap yard or track 1 down on the net.

    Thanks
    Jose

    Hey Jose,

I don't think any Renault Gearbox is that good for 250 nags mate??

They can all be a bit brittle at times!!

Obi-wan Scoff is a good guy to give you some pointers as he's been through most Renault Gearboxes & is onto VW ones now!

Bit of a hijack, but away from home computer with dialogys, can anyone tell me the ratios of a jb3 Clio 1.8 16v (vehicle type c575), and a clio 172 phase 1 please?

    Re: gearbox help

clio 172,early laguna, megane f7r, clio williams are all JC5 series of boxes, much better than the chocolate 1.8 16v clio gearbox which is a JB3 series.

    williams is JC5 014
    laguna/megane is JC5 024
    some lagunas are JC5 053

not sure on derivative of the 172 gearbox

but none of them will take much more than 200bhp, believe me i know from bitter experience, tried all bar the 172 box and blown them all up! (172 box is same, but tend to have less mileage so last a bit longer)
