recomend some good front pads for road use/spirited drive?

Dont do track, just use the 5 on nice days and nice weekends with a good thrash. What are the options on front pads availlable guys? Will any big brand oe pads be good enough, ie lucas/trw/pagid/ferrodo/mintex etc

Personally if It's just road use I'd be tempted to stick some standard pads on. Ferodo DS2500 are fantastic for the road or track but quite pricey compared to OE pads.....

Has tended to be the most popular response in threads like this.

Remember than about 20% of the stopping comes from the rear brakes so by making the fronts bite earlier and with overall less pedal effort the rears will be working less or a lot less and the overall stopping may actually be not quite as good.

Yer iv heard good reviews about 2500's everywhere, but there abit pricey for what il be using them for i reckon.

Out of the ebay listed ones it looks like this

    ferodo 325 £15
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RENAULT-5-TURB...item41511da46b
    ferodo 845 £15
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RENAULT-SUPER-...item335daff40b
    (whats the difference?)

The 325's are for mk1 R5, you need the 845 pad fitment but, neither are DS2500.

Are these ferodo far better than EBC red and yellow stuff?

ebc has a big name, probably to do with the fact there in the mags and halfords etc, never heard a good review about them.

Just ordered the ferrodo's for mine (not the ds2500's just the regular ones)

I have Pagid kevlar in mine. They work very well & would recommend them

I have Ferrodo DS2500 on my Impreza & wouldn't have them again. I've had juddering due to uneven pad deposites. I've read its a fairly common problem due to the pad bonding agent leeching out. I'm going try Mintex 1144 next as I've alway had good results with them in the past.

Yes I would never use those again. Got swindled by EBC salesman's spiel twice. Both times the pads were very poor and very inconsistent. Apparently they'd had 20 different formulas between the ones I wasted my money on; V1 and V3 or 4, I forget.

Even though I don't like EBC I have greenstuff on the fronts and the black ones @ the rear. But these have been on my car for years as it's only a weekend car I haven't had to replace them yet as loads of meat left but when I do I will be looking into Ds2500, Mintex or the carbon lorraine jobbies.

I had ds2500 on my r26, cracking pads but whenever It rained over night or got wet and left for an hour or so, when taking up drive would make a nasty sound as though they had stuck to the discs. Only done this after I swapped from standard Renault pads to the ds2500.

When I done mine I only replaced the pads an left the discs not sure if this would make any diff but they deft felt like they had momentarily stuck like you had just done a few laps of a track an stopped and put your hand brake on and the heat had stuck em, but only if it had rained or you'd just washed the the car. Little bit embarrassing on your brand new motor though sounds horrid. Also found plenty of meat on discs but started to look like a vinyl record. I had the car from new and only changed pads, maybe should of done the discs to.

Sounds like the discs rusted over a little bit. My standard rears did it for years.
