    gearbox options

my 5th box is starting to get stuck in 5th gear when slowing down..

are there any other budget options that dont involve quaife gears etc, they could last a bit longer? i've currently got a renault 11 box that has lasted ages, the gtt ones used to last 5mins

would that improve durability? i'm not sure what actually breaks on my boxes, as i just replace the whole thing

i take it diesel laguna boxes etc. are no good? last dyno (read with pinch of salt etc) it was 256lb/ft torque which is probably a factor

    Re: gearbox options

Will the ratios of the 172/182 boxes be sutable for the strip?

I am on my 4th box in not so many miles and this one has started to play up also!

It would seem that most gtt boxes are becoming more and more fragile

I was crossing the line almost on the limiter in 4th at 108mph & 6800 rpm ish... on 14" drag slicks.

    Re: gearbox options

I take it this was in a gtt?

If I remember correctly a gtt is also high up in fourth at the line.

I was crossing the line at 97/99mph but I don't think i was that high up the revs.

If it was a gtt what was it like to drive on the road with a 172 box?

my 172/182 gearbox was crossing the line at 112/114mph at 8000rpm and i have rev it to 8500 and beyond, driving on the road with 16'' wheels is the same as driving it on 13'' rims which made the boost come on quicker, you loose 6-8mph but i had 145mph on the GPS

    Re: gearbox options

I presume it's relativly straight forward as they are the same casing ect, not sure on the speedo and reverse light switch.
