renault scenic 1.6 16v wont idle

Well my mums Renault scene 1.6 16v was running fine, until she turned it off on the drive and found it would not restart..

Simple case , battery dead (7 years old/ original battery) so we stuck a new one on, and started it.. now the car starts but will not idle, so long as you hold the revs above 1krpm it will run fine, but as soon as you let go it dies..

Ive checked voltage and its getting a healthy 14v when running so its defo charging

:S no error lights etc just wont idle..

Any suggestions, bearing in mind it was fine before the battery change.

What year is the car?

This may be utter bulls**t, but i was under the impression, that if you change the battery, or power gets disconnected the ecu resets itself and can cause problems!

As i say, i don't know this to be fact, but my boss's wife's car had a similar issue and it was the ecu................

ermm the cars 7 years old..

thats what i was thinking, just hoping its not going to be a case of paying some silly silly fee to have the ecu reprogramed..

Its almost as if the fuelings completly gone tits up.

nothing to do with the batery but have you checked the coils??

if its misfiring on idle- try diconnecting the injectors one by one, as soon as you disconnect one the engine should run even worse or just die!
if you disconnect one and it makes no diffrence then that cylinders coil is prob knackered!!

i know they shouldnt be voltage related but it could just be bad timing!and its a quick check to rule them out!

just tried that this morning however by unclipping each one it results in a missfire..

I was going to remove the icv idle valve jobby however its well and truely jammed in the bulkhead,.. looks almost like its a job or swinging the engine forwards to gain access to it

idle valve would be the next thing id check
this may sound stupid but have you tried disconnecting the battery for five mins then reconnecting it?

yea, i tried disconnecting the battery a few times, no joy though.

Think i will be gaining access to that idle valve

its fixed now, my mum took it to a local garage, they apparntly plugged it into the computer, and reset the ecu.. job done..

What a load of toss i say.
