    What Turbo

New poster! (less than 10 posts)

Hello all, does anyone have a k tec 250 roller bearing turbo fitted to their car or know of any people that have. Thinking of a new turbo very soon but am wondering if the £880 price tag is worth it or will i be a mug to spend that sort of cash, let me know what you thinkhttp://www.k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=2052
    Cheers. Rich.

go for the roller bearing core m8 u will never look back but just make sure the compresser and exhaust side are the right size....and spend money on a decent air filter dont scrimp and scrape and dont go "green" i sucked one through my turbo...not good m8.

    Re: What Turbo

These rollerbearings are getting harder and harder to get hold of now. Garrett have put most things on hold for some reason. We can get the GT2560R unmodified for £550 +vat, so it'll come with the .64 turbine and .60 comp housings. Mind you, i'm not sure how long they'll stay at that price, the market is constantly fluctuating.

Is that a good unit to fit on the 5 turbo, at the moment i have a ktr180 running 18psi @ manifold so i am looking to buy something descent to get about 22psi and a bit more of a punch when it comes on boost. What sort of lag will i get with the GT2560R mate?
Do you work for a company that builds turbo's then Adam?

    Re: What Turbo

With the GT2560R on the mentioned housings, it probably wouldn't hit full boost till about 5k rpm, maybe slightly earlier. I've never used one. There's loads of different varities you can have for a hybrid, it just depends wether you want lag or not. There's larger compressor wheels/housing/shafts/turbine housings to choose from.

I work for the company mentioned above.

Thanks for the info mate it sounds to me if i dont do a lot of homework before buying a turbo to suit what i am after it could potentially be a big mistake waiting to happen. what unit would you recommend buying Adam?

    Re: What Turbo

It depends to be honest. A stock engine, i'd use a T2/T25, maybe try a larger wheel, T25 shaft with a T2 housing. Aftermarket cams, i'd use a T25 or T28.

whats the car used for, road, drag, track or all 3? do you need turbo to kick in early like the std unit or late but with huge boost.

    Re: What Turbo

The 230 was a T2 back end with some small trim T25 comp wheel I think. I never remember because K-tec hybrids are pretty **** to be honest. If you've got a .49, it's a T25 back end, so something else.

    Re: What Turbo

If i was to change turbo in the future and continue to run 21psi with the T2 back wud i see a big difference in power? boosting quicker must have its advantages though?

    Re: What Turbo

I will but in with one more question...

What do you say about GT2554R with .64 exhaust running on 1.5 bar (22 psi) for fast road conversion? So, i am chasing nice torque from 3000 to max rpm and not that much peak power. I have BBPT GT cam, tubular exhaust, BMS downpipe, 5000ccm interccoler, forged inside and sorted head.

When can I expect to start spooling and when it can be on maximimum boost?

    Cheers

    I had the gt2554r with a 285 cam & had full boost at 4000rpm.

i currently have the gt2554r with a .49 exhaust on a different 5 with std cam & i get full boost at about 3700rpm,i imagine the cam will help it come in a bit earlier still?

what's your thought's on the 'GT' cam? have you had any other cam's to compare it to?

    Re: What Turbo

I had Piper 270 and 285 before. I know that this one is also made by Piper. It is slightly different slope while peak is the same as 285. Gives little better response on lower revs than 285 but bit more louder on idle.

2nayls: is .49 rear straight fit?

If I remember correctly Gary (Nayls) had to get the rear housing slightly bored out for the exhaust wheel to fit.

    The 'GT' is'nt a piper

yeah .49 is a straight fit if you can get one,not many places do them.

you can get a normal .49 & have it machined to fit though.

they may have just give you a piper timing wheel?

the .49 i have was specially made for a rollerbearing,as i said though a normal .49 can be machined to fit.

That about wheel crossed my mind. Who would think that company that makes camshafts doesn't have their own timing wheel

Thanks for the info about rear housing
