    fitting tripple gauge holder.. help!

I am currently fitting the triple gauge holder in my phase 2 r5, which goes in place of the center heaters, however due to how far back the gauges physically sit they will hit a part of the heater pipe work. Is there a easy/recommended way of removing this to allow them to fit.. Or would I be right in thinking a chisel and a hammer is the usual course of action..

This is what I started to do then I got bored and left it 1/2 hanging out still works fine just not the best look. Will get around to doing it properly soon.

I cut out part of the heater box with a hacksaw blade with the dash in situ. Don't forget to fix the flap for the cold air vents down.
