    Breather system

What are peoples thoughts on breather systems on there 5gtt, i ask because i went to get a quote on getting my turbo rebuilt today at Doug Sport a turbo specialist and he hated my set up and said i should bloke it off behing the carb loose the catch take and pipe it down to behind the gearbox and let it go to atmosphere.

Does anyone else advise this as i think thats what im going to do and i know hes advised another member on hear to.

    Thanks Mat

The catch tank is mainly there to stop any oil spits covering the bay. I don't see it as much of a restriction.

I've plugged the back of the manifold from the breather, done it to a few friend's cars too, it just simplifies it and its less fumes for the engine to breathe back in.... or does the valve work the other way round, I always forget

You can simplify the breather system as per the cup setup. There is nothing wrong with the o.e setup really aslong as the pipe is removed from the telephone hose so dont believe the 'turbo specialist'

    Re: Breather system

The one way valve in the inlet should be sealed on boost so the engine wont be sucking fumes in, as far as im aware its only open on idle on o.e setup.

I have removed the one way valve & simplified the system on mine, the engine smells oily on idle compared to o.e setup even though the piston rings are ok. Id have stock setup refitted if it was a daily driver.
