    Going jap?

Hi all was thinking of getting a jap motor something along the lines of a 300zx or a mk3 supra. Was just wondering what everyones opinions on these were seeing as some of you appear to be into jap cars and what not.

    Re: Going jap?

Sorry guys just looking at the mk3 supra and 300zx at the moment. Any good forums to look at for these cars? I have tried pistonheads, ebay and autotrader but not really finding what I want in terms of colour, manual/auto etc

Google up some owners clubs, there are a few out there.

And you could try driftworks.com for ones for sale too.

my m8 has just picked up a 300zx there not that expensive cars he paid 1200 and it goes pritty well when the turbos kick in that is supra's are nice dont know any one with one but would only have a turbo one and think they are quite expensive.

    whats your budget?

I now some lads who were importing jap stuff for a while, they had alot of headaches with the 300zx's, don't ask me what, they had enough and just stopped importing them.

I think a pulsars a good bet, as long as its been looked after, quite a quick car for the money.

    Re: Going jap?

The 300's are quite a pain to work on too, the engine is shoe horned into the bay. I spoke to a mechanic who owned one quite a while ago and he mentioned he had to take the heads off just to remove the turbo's.

    Re: Going jap?

You can pick up old skool Impreza's for silly money these days. I saw a nice STIv3 for £2k on PH the other week. STIv5 onwards are the ones to get though (even better if it's a Type R), and even they can be sniffed out for ~£5k.

Similar price would get you an Evo 5. A grand or so on top of that would get you a decent enough 6.

    Re: Going jap?

Thanks for the feedback guys, one of the problems I have is once I get an idea in my head I usually get set on it regardless of how bad it is.

I had heard some horror stories about 300zx's requiring engine removal or similar to gain access to the turbos so perhaps it would be wise steering clear of them.

I'd say i'm looking to spend 3k at the minute although I'm not a massive fan of scoobys or evo's I must admit.

Whats your opinions on these supra's?

    Re: Going jap?

The engine in the 300 is better if you ask me, even though it's a ballache to work on.

Why not look at the Soarer? They've got the 1JZ lump, which is pretty impressive (twin turbo 2.5)
