Thanks for the advise guys, does Bob post on the boards?

I've tried Catcams, but they were pretty slack with getting back to me. Will also have to try Kent Cams today.

On that ebay listing it says the cam is an outright purchase?

Perhaps a daft question....can the cam be changed in situ or is it an engine out job?

the cam can be changed by tilting the engine slightly but id say its easier to remove the whole engine.

It can be done by jacking up the crank pulley side of the engine and pulling the cam out into the anti perc fan location and the removing it. To be honest i have never done a cam with a vernier this way only standard cams. So not sure how easy it would be to time one up like this.

Hmm, maybe I'll just purchase the Cam via Ebay from them in that case.

EDIT: just looked at the ebay advert.... they actually sell the cam for £115 if you trade in your (reasonable condition) cam.

    Re: 285 Cam...

The cam is a reprofiled cam , i used to run one of them but when i took my engine apart i found some of the lobes had worn away and rounded off slighty from the piper 285 ..... dont know if you can get a brand new one ground from a blank ... guess it will cost twice as much tho ..... maybe i was unlucky and got a bad un as loads of people run the 285s with great results ...

power gains go hand in hand with the rest of the cars set up.
you will get more out of the cam with a T28 over a T2 for example.

the power band is changed with a 285 and offers a different driving experience.

my od T2 standard cam would run out of breath about 4.5k flat after that.
the piper and T28 power band is coming in full steam about there and just keeps pulling until you darent rev the b*tch any more.

T25 might offer less turbo lag mind you.

An adjustable vernier pulley is a must for this cam or not?

I don't have one, but that's because I didn't have the money at the time...probably is a must from what I have read

Definitely. Piper's grinds aren't always on the mark. In fact, very rarely.
