    wont start

over the past 3 month i have had my car running but not brilliant. however ther past week it wont start at all. it started missing so i replaced the leads plugs cap and arm. it was ok for the day then it wont start at all. it turns over fine. i have put all the original leads etc back in and checked them all. I have a spark on all plugs/ leads and have fuel upto the carb. my timing was slightly out but have sorted that but for some reason the firing order on my car is back to front. i.e No1 lead goes to piston 4 from the flywheel etc. if i put the leads in as they should it just sits there popping at me.

Indeed try your dizzy cap the other way round as you may have fitted it wrong. Also fit a new tdc sensor

Yeah i know about that but when i put my leads on that way round when i try to start it, it just pops and bangs at me.

if i put them on so to say piston 4 becomes No.1 then when i turn it over its wanting to go but just wont.

surely you cant put your dizzy the wrong way unless you put the toothed sprocket that sits in the cam the wrong way round

right done this so far today,

Engine set to 0 degree, OK
Dizzy offset so larger mass is to RHS, OK
Dizzy put on correctly and arm is facing radiator, OK
Sparkplug removed from cyl 1 (flywheel end) and can feel piston head, OK

Gonna replace the carb after a clean now.

My car was doing the same, I reset the dizzy gear as you have above many times and the big D 1/2 was passenger side of the car, cyl 1 at TDC, bellhousing and flywheel TDC marks lined with 0 on the gearbox. I put the rota arm back on so it was facing the radiator (as it should), all was good put dizzy shaft back in and tightened secured it with the small 11mm bolt placed rota arm in place and it would face the radiator all was good then after a drive the car would for some reason be 180 degrees out so I turned my leads 180 degrees outs all was good doing this until I hit about 2500 -3000rpm and I was getting bad hesitation about 2500 rpm, I then swapped the TDC wires arounds so I am getting some advance and my car has been perfect ever since.
I replaced loads of things from entire new fuel line, fuel pump, fuel filter, different carb, new carb gasket set, I even chanaged AEI, I even removed the fecking fuel tank to clean and flush through. Then on a work lunch break I thought I would have a play with the TDC wiring I swapped the wires around so I was getting some advance and now my car runs perfect.

    Try your tdc connections

    ok,

Leads put on 1, pump end and 4 flywheel end, OK
New dizzy cab and arm fitted, OK
    Carb cleaned and fitted, OK

    New tdc sensor fitted

All other items fitted and IT ONLY BLOODY RUNS....

    assuming it was the tdc..

Will run it again in the morning to see if still ok

Thanks for all your help peeps.
