my mid engined rwd cossied 5 updated 24/2/10

ive never done a thread in here before and cant really be arsed to go through it all again.
i might copy and paste some details from another site.

here it is as it sits now.

    the engines back out,
just for some cleaning, painting, rewiring.
i cant afford the stuff i wanted to do to it, due to some jobs cancelling on me in these ****ty times.

i need a new waterpump as this ones packed up,
gunna get a std exhaust cam for it,
    and some general tidying up.
    so nothing exciting really.

not exactly much room to work,

Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5

got bored and had a spare 1/2 hour so spur of the moment i painted the wheels black.

    take the wheels off,

get a few bits out of the garage,

    rubbed down

    mist coated

    all painted

    and back on the car

    much better

then though it would be rude not to take a pic of 3 of my toys on the drive.

think i will put a white pin stripe round the edge of the rim.

    it handles just fine m8,
ive not had it on track yet, but its done plenty of spirited road driving and i havent found the limits yet.
i would expect to this summer tho. lol

there is still a fair bit of weight in the front of mine, especially with all the fluids in there.

i plan on doing a few more crazy conversions in the near future, but not to the same spec as this. its just toooooo expensive.

it is very fun taking it out.
theres a few of us round here with powerful cars that just go out to play, but never some up against a proper supercar, there is a porsche 911 turbo and a lambo gallardo around here i wanna meet on the road.

i dont think that car has flesh, bones or blood. . just pure muscle ,
back 5 years ago or so a rear engined five with a five engine was enough but some of you out there are on another level , who needs a new car when you can have cult car looks and super car performance. .im so jealous i can pretty much build you a house but cant find find my way round an engine bay!!!!

i dont think im gunna do another mid engined build,
next 1s gunna be front engine rwd.
prob wont be a small car either, i prefer a bigger car.
wont be for at least a year tho, i wanna get this 1 a bit further along before starting another.

plus wanna sell 1 or 2 others 1st.

Re: my mid engined rwd cossied 5

as its mid engined not rear, the weight distribution is very good
and as theres a lot of weight at the front with the big rads full of water and petrol tank there, it holds the front down quite well.
i have been told tho, that when i launch hard it does lift the front wheels off the ground. lol but ive never seen that.

it does feel like its got power steering to.

Point taken, but you still didnt answer my question stu. We have all spent loads of money on all our 5's over the years ,and thats me doing the work too! If i was to add up what i spent on my 5,s, it would cost more or less the same as putting a cossie engine in the back in the first place.

a million pounds then, anyone so lucky to be able to do work on there own cars to such a high standard is highly comendable, i can do basics but the things you guys can do must save a fortune in garage labour costs.

    Pmsl
in the 5 yrs I've had it I've spent around £30k in parts, lots of that is mates rates to, no labour as I've done 99% myself.
I know a company that does builds like this, he recons around £15k in labour to copy it. If you supply the car and the parts.

    how it sits now.

just before the start of show seaon and the fun that comes with it and ive stripped it to the bones. lol

gearbox is out to be stripped, inspected, cleaned and repainted.
rear suspension is off for a cleanup
drive shafts need cv joints repacking and cleaning then paint

ive also done some more welding and paneling to the engine covers to seal it better, and done a load of cleaning/painting already.

hopefully i will get it back together soon, its booked to go on a stand at the rsoc central day in the middle of april so i better get a move on.
