car booked in for power run @ mikeanics 20-02-2010

hi guys as some of you may know i got the hg sorted on my car and had the fuelling set up really well at gt motorsport last week.

anyway due to me organising the last rr day and also not running and losing my deposit mike offered to do me a few runs for free once my car was running right so im off up there this sat im not sure what sort of bhp/torque it will make as im rather new to the gt turbo tuning scene but here is my current spec and maybe you guys could have a rough idea ( id be happy with anything over 130bhp tbh)

    t2 @ 16psi
    ported head
    2.5" downpipe
    ported/enlarged turbo elbow
    scorpion system
re jetted carb with fuelling bang on set up on wideband
    double cap intercooler

this is how the engine spec will stay for a while unless i decide to de bur/port the inlet manifold and see if any sort of porting/gas flowing can be done to the carb

Should prob see in the region of 160bhp mate i recon

No gain in porting/gas flowing carb, basically that will be a large venturi carb and you know what they are like

160 bhp on the t2 turbo ? i thought about 140 was about the limit for a t2 on the gt turbo ?

No you can get little more than that from it, wouldn't want to push more then that from a T2 though.

ah right u certainly live and learn i actually thought i was being optimistic thinking 140bhp max one thing for sure is that mikes rollers are really accurate so there will be no bs

interesting read that i know not to take these as gospel but as said i do know these rollers are calibrated every month and ceratin cars iv seen there eg stage 1 and 2 cossies made around the right power for what they should be some did make a tad higher.

also i used it as a base on my old rs turbo to see what different mods did and it always seemed read true

I'll be honest mate i'd still take result with pinch of salt.

Thing is what is a 'stage' tune, could be anything with a power figure given to it.

For the RS Turbo you had, what did you base your results on, how you know it was reading true?

    Not picking mate just interested.

trust me fella i wont be taking the results as the be all and end all it will just be a guide for any future things that get done.

on the rs turbo it was just diff things like when i upped the boost on standard cam then i added a 285t cam and tested that, then had a big valved ported head stuck on and got that tested to see what diff it made, also when i got different injectors and uprated the t3 turbo

Ok mate thats understandable, you fit abit it gives better reading. Thats cool.

Thing is was the rollers giving a true reading, there are no set figures to gauge to so your relying on what the rollers say. Thats where the unrealistic figures start to come from.

Once you get yours run come back with the reslts and we'll see what its like, also see if you can see what the AFR's are like too, see how they act through the rev's.

ok mate iv got a bung welded in d/p so thats not a problem i do know its 11.6 on full boost and 13.8 on idle, he said he could up it to 12 or 12.5 on full boost but has set it at this as its safe and tbh i dont want change it as it feels miles better than its ever been

    Re-rejet the carb LOL

Main jet at 1.2mm is more than adequate for upto 20psi if the carb is modified in the correct areas

Do you know your carbs spec? Is just the main jet different? Not the GT Tuning style big main a/c overkill combo is it?!

I had 158bhp and 169ft lb with my T2 at 17psi with nothing more than a stock intercooler, a 2" system and an airfilter

Those were flywheel figures plus I never trust a dyno to show proper power, at best they give you a rough idea

thats all this is about really to give me a rough idea as the next time i go ill have the fuelling leaned out to around 12 and also get the inlet manifold ported so its just to see if it seems to gain anything after this

well guys we have problems car only made 107.2 bhp and 112.1 lb.ft now the fuelling is bang on as i had it adjusted and its now hitting 12.2 on full boost. iv been lead to beleive that my aei unit could be knackered as the problem hits when i get full boost as you will see from the prinouts

    bhp

    torque

hopefully this aei unit will sort the problem out, also got a new timing chain cover as mine is pooped and leaking oil , another thing iv just read is that the ngk 9 grade plugs are too cold for a gt turbo and this is what my car has in would this cause any sort of power loss?

One question, is that power at the flywheel or the wheels?
