    Beatrice

Been around for ever but never done a build thread for any of my GTT's so here it goes.

Any way a few years ago a acquired Steve L's blue shell. Originally I was going to go track style like my old white GTT. A freshly built engine was picked up from my mate Iain and R888's bought for my stock wheels.

    Re: Beatrice

During building it up I decided I wanted a good road car and not a track car so my cage was sold to a local member and I swapped brand new windscreen surround for a full interior from another local member. I then bought a load of sound deadening and started to cover everything.

After many many months of bugging a mate his brother finally sold is polished P slots to me

She passed the MOT and made it to the ACE meet! and the rush to run the car in before Frog of the pod 2009.

After speaking to Tommy B and Rob @Backyard I decided on getting the GTT hub's machined rather than the wheels since they only had 57.1mm centres rather than the GTT's 60.1m. So after Speaking to Robbie (turboted) he said he know some one so off all the bit went and in a week or so I had the bits back. So it all got fitted thanks Robbie. Then after getting grief From Marc (carcrash) and Dave (Dog**** Dave) We did an emergency paint job on the centres of the P slots the day before Fog of the pod.

Thanks but it wasn't a very practical engine bay layout but looked pretty that has changed a lot as I carry on with what happened over the years.

So before Mallory The engine bay got changed a bit to try and solve the boost hoses popping off. So a carb top came back and big bling mikalor clamp everywhere problem solved.

But At Mallory I my turbo gave way But it was a Ebay buy at £22 many years ago. The lads helped me bodge a bolt into the block where the oil feed comes out and off on my merry way home I went.

Oh Dave you still owe me money for that bet on how long that turbo would last.

    Re: Beatrice

Noting much else changed coming into 2010 as I was toying with the idea of going 16v turbo So I bought a pwr charge cooler ready for it. me being me I didn't go through with it.

POD came around again so off I trotted and spent the day playing with jets and boost levels. Until BOOM miss fires and smoke. at worst a cracked liner or at best just headgasket failure was diagnosed. lucky Sunday Robbie towed my five home and I got to drive his completely oe GTT. I cracked on with taking the head off once home to just find it was a headgasket. and had it back together by the time it was dark. Got to love how simple a C1J can be.

in the end I found my issue was ACT related after fitting a Ian S gauge so the grill mounted frontera intercooler wasn't up to the job. I then fitted the PWR cooler which was just as bad. even after uprating the pump, size of pipes and pre rad.stk at 14psi max and 50-60 degree inlet temps

    Re: Beatrice

As winter started to come in I spoke to Steve about what size front mount he had fitted before I bought the car. As it turned out it was a size that was still for sale on Ebay so £70 Toyosport intercooler was bought. lucky I have a bag full of hoses so boshed the cooler on the car. Hey presto ACT in control within 15-20 degrees of ambient under boost. So up went the boost to 20psi happy days.

For some reason work decided to give me a few hundred pounds hmm Should I pay off my credit card or spend on Beatrice. You can guess what won so I spoke to Chris (Scoff) about using Adaptronic for mappable ignition with eventually going full EFI. So I bought all that was need to get the car running. With the info from Chris and spannering help From Dan (bigdanc) we got it running in just a fee hours. and that brought 2010 to the end.

lol no. I've herd other people have them working fine it was just it didn't work for my set up. With hindsight I believe if I had moved the pre rad down to the bumper or even the old intercooler they would of worked better. As I think the grill area has very poor airflow unlike the bottom of the front bumper.

    Re: Beatrice

So onto 2011 and it started with the RTOC group buy of Raceland manifolds what a bargain . Well the manifold was but for me to be able to fit it meant time to get rid of the cossie T3 turbo. So I went to see my old Friend Iain at power engineering to talk turbo and we decided to go for the smallest GT series turbo that could flow 250bhp (Well according to Garrett) which was a GT2056.

Now this is where the year went crap with fabricators messing me about with getting a downpipe made. Which finally got all finished end of Dember.

but anyway the new turbo got bodged on after the MOT and made it to national day at Mallory which went ok with out any issues apart from the external wastegate blowing.

Before Frog of the pod went to see Iain for him to make sure the ignition map was safe and too my surprise it made 209/227@18psi . We did try 22psi but it didnt have enough fuel at the top end as we all know Rolling roads should be taken with a pinch of salt but I was more happy with the shape of the graph rather then the power.

So off to the Pod we went again and I ran a flat 14@102 still with all my crap in the boot and exhaust blowing issues before the turbo. Which carried on till the end of August where my external wastegate take off started to crack so Beatrice was off the road. until a new fabricator could be found. That finally was sorted at the end of of 2011

    Re: Beatrice

So 2012 as drawing to an end and another year of the madness thats GT turbo ownership has almost gone.

This year I thought I'd save some money, enjoy the car and the French trip.

But nope after some drunken Ebay bidding I won a brand new unused GT tuning front bumper for £40. I'd wanted one for over ten years but the £299 + VAT price always put me off. So happy Days the bumper and two new oe grills when off to Tom at Lemass ( http://www.lemass.co.uk/ ) one grill was being debadged and the bumper had the mesh holes filled in and number plate recess made to fit my 3/4 number plate the price wasn't cheap but I trust his judgement and am very happy with his work.

Also I started to tune the carb further than before getting up to 24psi with a adjustable fpr and going back to 1.7mm needle valve. On boost it was epic but off boost and around town was well

Then the last pieces of my EFI jigsaw came up for sale so there went the rest of my savings for the French trip but EFI . Three weeks before National day I decided to start the conversion cause I was bored. lol I made it to national day on my very poor mapping with 12psi of boost. mid august my car went to Scoff's for mapping I asked for a mega safe map as I liked the odd spirited drive you could say . The car made 206/210 22psi midrange 24psi top end still on my baby GT20 (75% duty on 470cc injectors). Since then apart from maintenance and a couple of little bit's it's been great fun plus close to 40mpg on a run is a bonus.

Looking good! The gt2056 is a popular choice with the turbo minis. Did you ever run it without the external wastegate?

Nope never tried after a Google search I had a read up on the mini forum and they said they got massive boost spikes so I just went external. Plus I seem to remember and chairman had the same issues a few years ago with Emma s car. I love the little blower response is near instant which is fun but makes town driving entertaining as 1/4 throttle and your wheel spinning down the road.

Yep is a great turbo for a small engine car.

With age comes wisdom I started to realise that unless you build a a really silly C1J the limit seems to be about 250hp. So I just picked the smallest turbo that would flow that.

Yep stock box I've just fitted Daves old box last weekend as mine had been rattling for the last few years and it seems like a good box so hopefully you'll be fine. There's only one way to find out mate but remember it's torque and harsh use that kill's box's/cluches not bhp. The JC5 seemed to last well with Turbo Ted's So if it did die maybe getting your diff fitted to a good/rebuilt JC5 would be the way forward.

So two months into 2013 and I've just load of welding done had been holding off for the last few years collecting all the panels. luckly it was pretty much all under the kit. This just leaves four spots to get done next winter windscreen, both rear 1/4 windows and a fresh boot. but none of it will stop it from getting a MOT so happy days.

A huge thanks to Robbie for his skill.

    https://www.rtoc.org/files/index.php?...%20Feb%202013/

Also fitted the Group buy Koni's I've set them to soft ( I know must be getting old) feel great Thanks to Wallace and Ian for sorting it. The old Leda shocks didn't want to give my springs back so this happened.

Wow well over a year since I last updated my build. well not much as changed well apart from changing from a gt2056 to a EFR6258 turbo, gone from 2.5' downpipe to a 3' one, 14' P slots have been sold and now on freshly dimoand cut 15' P slots. Boost is set to 1.8 Bar and everything seems happy............... For now.

Nice P slots suit the car very well

Have you had the bore machined out to 60.1mm as they are VW bore size 57.1mm aren't they?

Epic just got to get use to it having no boost at all below 3k at all I keep on thinking I've popped a hose off. 3k has 0.7bar than 1bar at 3.5k then what ever boost I want by 4k. I'll show you if I ever have the spare fuel for a Surrey meet.
