What Renault Parts would you want??

Right over the last few weeks, i have been in contact with many people at renault, i now finally have a contact who is willing to help me & has found where source bits from...

I am going to call him tomorrow to discuss options...

Now I am going to ask for front bumper strips, Gearknob's, suspension top mount's...

I would need to talk to my contact to discuss number's need &rough cost etc...

Now i would like to know what parts people are after... but remember the cost's involved & availibilty of parts... there is no point in my asking for discount on parts already in production (although i will try),I am mainly trying to get "hard to get hold off/nolonger available parts).

Good luck Chris, you will find I have called most of the numbers your chap will have. Both in the UK and Europe, but always worth trying as it will help keep our cars on the road.

I am not promising anything but i am doing my best and i will be on the phone tomorrow to Renault UK & Renault France in a conference call set up by Renault uk...

Update,

Spoke to Renault Uk/France via conference call..

They were very happy with what i asked, they said some things were impossible to get remade as they were often made by other comany's and renault just brought the right's to use said product's...

But most plastic's, tubing, hose's could easily be remade... Carpet and seat material are different story but the french guy will look into it...

They did mention that most bodywork is still manufactured and easily available (bar a shell)

This is all for the ph2, ph1's are slightly different and due to numbers left of them renault dont seem overly keen on remaking parts... but they will look into it..

I will get another call next week and full email in detail of what can be done, cost, minimun numbers etc etc.

When they said bodywork mate was it just bodypanels i:e wings, sills, quaterpanels, floor sections, etc or does it include plastic body panels too like the kit, trims and all other piece's?

Sorry they meant body panels... they only said "most" so i am sure there are the odd panel they dont do... but they can do if there is enough demand..

Plastic body parts would be easy to do but would require a minimum order..

Thats cool mate, if they can do then be good to see what panels they can do as it'll be nice to replace rotten panels with genuine ones rather than patching up all the time

They not available at renault any more, saw one on eBay for like 90 quid buy now. They were only around 40 quid a little while ago.

Bloody hell, that much for front wing's?? I though they were still available... the only problem is i think renault will want a minimum order of 50 for many parts... cant see 50 people wanting a set of wings? Where as Gearknobs, front bumper rubbers, headlights, etc there maybe enough interest...

i know the 5 is the most popular but how about showing some of the rarer cars on here some love too please!

if something can be sorted im sure most of us 9 turbo owners could do with some more panels if theres anything lying about in a warehouse somewhere!!! i have cash waiting for ANY panels lying about, doors, boot, bonnets, the lot. suspension struts, rear beams, u name it mate.

dont have a thing against 5's but it isnt all just about the small rockets here, us large lads here with rustier bodies need some love too!

these are the items that most people will need to keep the cars mot'd and on the road for the next ten or so years,just like the lads in mini clubs
not "coupe" badges /gear sticks/knobs if we want to keep these lovely cars going
unless you want to really pay££££ for parts ie "fastcarspares" with the grp turbo 2 items there is only so long ebay will have secondhand parts available, before the number of r5gtt being broken is no more i would suggest now is the time to group buy /employ a company to mould these items,the smaller items can wait,

i know a fibreglass specialist up here and can probably get fibreglass front grills made up for people if they were interested in them?

he does this day in and day out for a living and his workmanship is superb.

if people wanted to do these for 5 grill's im sure i could speak to him and work something out if there wasnt any other way to make grills up?

i would be more than happy to donate my mint phase 1 grill to the cause if it meant the production of theses parts could continue without the stupid /greedy price tags being placed on such items ,if all other members did the same for various items it would cost the club a lot less to make reproduction items ,you would already have the plugs

well all he would want is the cost to cover making them and his time for it mate. i think he made one up here for scotlands most hated man (mike) and it was something like £40 he paid for it to see what the condition was like, its going to be painted and on one of his own cars and the quality is very good. its not painted so got a good look and the materials used for it are top notch the mould was a brand new grill that was used to create it as well.

if everyone chipped in (highly unlikely though) then we'd have a lot more 5's probably on the road looking in better condition or at least ON the roads not sitting off them 3/4 of the year showing those new shaped bubble crappers how a real car looks and goes!

of course it would only be right that the club shop held the moulds/production parts,no dis-respect to anybody in general ,but people do come and go in the club scene, and i would be pissed if parts had to be remade due to "lost items"

i hear,and agree totally with what your saying. it would in the long run pay for itself,and give every member cheaper motoring costs , plus the fact that grp wouldnt rust ,less weight,easy to repair if crashed damaged on track etcthen with the pennies saved move onto the more smaller detailed items like the badges,stickers etc ,

I agree we should find a fibreglass guy , and get him on board, get him to create some molds for r5 wings/bonnet/grills/boot lids.

From them same molds he could even produce carbon fibre items.

It would be really nice to see lots of decent r5 panels, i would be interested in a pair of wings so long as they fitted well.

A slight idea, and dont shoot me down.

A slight raise in the subscription charge the next time people are due to pay.
Just one time only, and the extra the club has gained, it could use to get a company on board and get mouldings sorted etc... this way it would be a small amount payed by all, but at least the ball would be rolling, and the initial lump sum would be sorted.

Just a thought but as its one off and does not have to be a great amount it maybe worth thinking about.

I have a chap who made all my fibreglass panels for my 105e, you can't fault his work, but once the panels are painted etc, they aren't as good as the real ones, they serve their purpose and are alot lighter, but they flex very easily, doors pop open under hard corner, seals no longer seal correctly etc. Making them is not a problem. Just the living with them afterwards needs some consideration.

Missing the point, point is i dont mind paying a few extra quid if i know im geting more. If its even an opt in or out basis... this could create more money for the club to look down said routes. In gaining the oney people dont have to do anything, the pot would just gradualy build up. It saves hassles of club members selling on the bay of **** etc. Im just thinking of ways money could be raised for pannels etc that are not so readily available. All it requires is small donations to get it rolling.

Can not contact renault in some way , and buy some stock from them , because soon there will be nothing on the shelfs , and see what they have left , cause it looks like to me they have had a price increase on the rare items for the five , some of the smally stuff is still cheap .

i am sure if we club together somehow, i know they have to leave some stock on the shelf for other 5 owners but sell some to us

Was this looked into before? or was that carbon bonnets? It would be interesting to know how many fibreglass panels need to be sold in order to make it worthwhile to producing them.

The problem for the club to buy any parts is, how many, what parts and then storage of said parts... IF it were 50 Gearknob's purchased for £20 each then maybe the club could look into it... but if it was 50 front bumpers then your looking at £5,000 & storage of that many bumpers would be an issue...

From what i have heard from renault is they will want a run of 50 minimum for "out of production" parts!! But we would get them said products for a tad bit over cost price (remember Renault already have the mould etc) so its just a case of using the mould's etc rather than design of mould's...

Tbh the main things we can realistically get are plastics, rubber & hose's... anything more will cost £££'s and i doubt there will be much demand..

Also remember that alot of parts arent actually built by renault, so some bits just arent available full stop!
