TBH if I needed one to finish of a mint OE car I'd think about it though I really would not like paying that.

As things get harder to come by you end up paying over the olds because you want it. A new old stock 3 door cosworth dashboard sold for £1250. Crazy money.

    Re: So who's...

In general you pay it because:

    • You want original equipment
    • You want it to be new and unused
    • You have no option unless you are prepared to wait and risk the item never coming up again

Maybe that's no coincidence ? Could it be that parts have sat on shelves for years while boy racers bought the shiney instead of the OE.

Quite honestly it seems to be the case with any popular car or item for that matter.

In general cars depreciate for a while after launch being used as intended and naturally reducing in numbers. Once the low point is reached the car is rarer and after a time starts to look interesting and perhaps to become something to appreciate maybe as an object than a transport mechanism.

Those cars lucky enough to survive are then better looked after as they have suddenly become more valuable and in turn more desirable.

I collect Minis (original type no longer made) which have been rising in price now for some time after the initial dip in price. Not surprisingly the associated OEM parts - especially unused - now fetch a premium with auctions attracting large numbers of bidders.

Renault 5 GT Turbos are obviously no different and I can see both the better cars and OEM parts prices only increasing as they and the parts become ever more scarce.

I can never understand why anyone is so surprised ?

Don't feel too bad now paying what I did for my sets. Still not sure what I am going to do with them.

Just out of interest how much does your work out to per set? + you will want to sell them for a profit...
