Looking for a new car, up to 3K to spend.....

As per title really. I'm going to be in need of decent sized car soon to use everyday and would like your opinions. It must have 4 doors, be practical, not cost too much to run and have a decent bit of poke.

At the momnet I've been thinking: Audi A3 Quattro or Impreza WRX....

    Any suggestions?

I've got a Impreza Wagon. I'd recommend one to anyboby. Just make sure it's been looked after. My insurance went up £100 per year and it uses a bit more fuel than the 5 did .

This one has the mappable ECU and 440 injectors for future modding

BMW 540i Pick one up for under £3k, gets to 60 in just over 6 seconds, safe, and fecking comfy. MPG would be about 25 on a run, but I doubt a WRX would be much better than that.

I have a BMW now (E36 325i auto) and I like it. I do suspect though a 540i would be heavy on petrol.....my 325i is pretty poor.
