    treating rust patches POR 15?

I have read on hear about a product called por 15 i think. I have a bit of rust that need attention on the inside, alot of it looks like surface, but would like to treat it all properly.

Could someone explain how to use this por 15, it seems to come in different colours to. There seems to be a prep, remedy and degreaser.

I take it its a rub down, grind, treat the area, fill if necessary, prime then paint.

Anyone who has used this steer me in the right direction and what to buy.

this stuff makes me dribble..,yes its best to follow the step by step approach they suggest for best results, clean area first with the 'marine clean' (you mix it with hot water),dry out, then use the metal ready primer as they instruct, after that paint the por 15 on.

dont get it on you hands as other folk have found out......aint that right mr JRP !!

but well recommended this product is!!!

yes a brush,id recommend cheapo thro'away ones, this stuff sets super hard!!!

as far as painting on top i think you may need a por 15 primer to get a nice finish,
then apply color of your choice, actually they do it in white !!!,clear, white and black, for all there product check-

For best results you need the marine clean, and the metal ready... i found with out these the por dose not stick as well.

If you are to paint over the black por 15 you need the etch primer, then top coat.... although the finnish of the black por 15 is good enough,

    Some examples of work...

i had not though of doing the sub frame that look great, so i take it you used the 3 stage on that and the paint at the end was the black?

How would you tackle parts on the car that are going to be painted?

    phil

Best thing is to remove the parts, clean them with the special gear, treat with metal ready and the paint...

For arches etc wire brush first like loads... then use normal car shampoo and clean like a fecker... the marine clean them etc etc

as jrp says clean, clean an clean again,as for parts that are going to be painted you may need this-

    http://www.frost.co.uk/item_Detail.a...tSubcat=POR-15

i have only ever used an needed the black though,so you may need this for a different finish/paint.

so get marine clean, metal ready, some white paint for the inside of car and under the front widow and any other paintable areas, followed by there primer. Do the sub frame, underneath of car with the first 2, then followed by the black paint, no primer needed.

bearing in mind that por 15 is not recommended on its own in daylight, its uv sensitive, tells you all about it on frosts for any technical info...
under car fine, but on top you probably going to need primer an alternative paint finish.

I use this quite a bit on various projects. Here's a project of mine that I completed approx 4 years ago and the POR15 is still going strong:

    http://www.griffith.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/

Top tip; leave the tin upside down when you're done, this helps when you come to open the tin again (also, buy the small tins as suggested above).

    Cheers chaps.

POR15 is good stuff, I'm tempted to try some of the Epoxy component paints though, something like this:

Re: treating rust patches POR 15?

The guy at frost told me not to bother with the marine clean and just to remove all lose rust then paint over.

I went a bit mad with the stuff did both sills and a couple of inches past them underneath, rear wheel arches where the kit goes over as they were starting to rust, all undernesth the rear bumper including the mounts(which amazingly where still there) the front cross member, inner wings, and a few inches inside the wheel arches both front and back and all the patches that I had welded inside the car. I did use some of the metal ready stuff for the fresh metal that was welded in

I was quite amazed at how the stuff sets it's like piss water when it's going on I came back the next dat and it was rock hard!

I too got it all over my hands and up my arms too took about 4 days for it to come off I tryed everything brake fluid, thinners, bleach, I found soap powder did the best job at removing it. However I still look like a secret goth or crossdresser as my nails are still black!
