Ok guys got big plans for next year so thinking i like the euro stretched look.
What does it entail, ie what size tyre, rim size and width, spacers and drop is required for a decent stance. Already looked on tyrestretch.com and looked at schmidt wheels.dont know if i can justify 2grand just for wheels though.
Opnions please.
on a gtt, id say 13x8 rims with 175/50/13 tyres
Don't plan on going round corners fast or driving fast at all with stretched rubber, recipe for disaster as the tyres pop off the rim easily...Does look good on show cars though.

In a ideal world these are the wheels im thinking about, in matt black with a polished lip
its entirely down to personal preference. if im totally honest, the 5 isnt the best suited car for stretched tyres.
As you know we all do what alot of people would call silly things too are cars, just to keep our little minds occupied and happy.
Anyone know what sort of drop id be looking at, i assume coilovers are a must and spacers?
I tried it on mine,worked a treat on the front with 13"x8" but couldnt get rears on without having to jack the rear right up,
Since these cars have a lower trim line on the back arch its a big job if you want real 'stance'. raise the rear,cut rear arch trims,cut rear bumper and fabricate new rear bumper brackets....front fit no problem with a low offset or spacers tho

165/50/15 tyres and bang you have stretch.
13x8s wont just fit on, and your gearing will be very very very short

what wheels and tyres are they on that? They give that car a sweet look! I want downgrade from the 15`s to 13`s
cant remember the tyre size, but the wheels were ats classics, 13x7 et20 with a 25mm spacer up front and 13x8 et00 with a 19mm spacer out back, think that hooked up to be et-5 and et-19?

he runs 16x7.5 with 195/40/16 toyo's and they look stretched but are safe.. so good balance of both
only about 50mm on springs. and to those who dnt think the tyres are safe go check out the japs drifting on stretch tyres, you will not be able to push a stretched tyre that much that ull push it off the rim, if anything there harder to get off as theres no sidewall movement so the tyre cant fold off the rimThat's the stance I'm after on a 5.

Stretch is fine. It won't pop off, that is total, total bollocks. Just look at 1970s Formula 1 cars. Here, for example, is a shady modified car built by idiots and driven by a clueless chav crashing because of stretch:

I love stretched tyres, look cool, i saw a stretch on some turbines that looked very good, it was on a lupo however and im not sure what sized tyre it was on there.
That would be a 165/50/15
Does the thinner tyres used worsen the grip/handlling of the car on the road compared to say 195/185 section tyres???
I would imagine a thinner tyre albeit stretched would give you less grip?

With a stretched tyre, the sidewall is pretty much solid so the car would feel like its on 'rails'...I would imagine understeer could be a problem
With a non stretched tyre, the tyre would have more give before you started losing grip.

i did take a pic but i lost it.. im going to be fitting a new set of rubber to my turbines soon aswell as some fresh paint so i will probably go for a stretch then.
Something like this, turbines using bridgestone re040's, 165 50 15's you can also get nankang's in the same size for cheaper but not as good tyre!

Those turbines are just like a set my mate had on his Raider, did look nice but the stretched tyres didn't last long. Since it had 220bhp it soon wore them out being there was less tread on the road
Very mild stretch on the turbines.
How is there less tread on the road? Unless the stretch is INSANE, its only the sidewall that is affected.
Ultimately this is not really a performance mod whichever way you spin it, so one for stance whores only.
To get the stretch he wanted he went witha thinner tyre than normal so if the tyres thinner then there will be less surface area on the road than a normal tyre on a turbine.
Yeah your right in what you say, it is more of a look thing deffinately not a performance one.
I told my mate not to do it but in the end it was his car, he liked it.
Turbines with stretched tyres look good, i assume they have been spaced out a fair bit as mine sit further in the arches.
Kapeesh. A fair point - I guess that's the result of trying to get stretch on gay boy 6.5J or 7Js! Go for manly 8.5J and you end up with a similar tyre width to recommended tyre width on a fail rim.

5 stud is easy, golf adaptors and get the rear ones chamfered to clear the rear caliper/pad and all of the centre bores will need enlarging as golfswagens are smaller diameter
Yeah dont run them anymore, but iirc they were 15mm hubcentric spacers on the back and ten on the front! they sat just a tad better in the arches!!!!!
All my hubs are VW fitment now, ive machined them down as i didnt want to mill my ATS classics out (would only have a smaller market to sell them too if i machined them out and want to ever sell them on to any VW owners not wanting to run spigot rings) if you get me...
