    Re: Rally Project

Enjoying (?) a monday off, so far removed nsf caliper and replaced with the spare that was in the garage, which is also fecking well seized (argh!)

On the plus front after spending ages pratting about with the starter motor wiring, spotted the tiniest nick out of one of the 2 wires midaway between the 2 terminals I was convinced was causing the problem, so billy bonus simple fix sorted for that one, just wish I'd thought of checking the most obvious simple thing first, ho hum!

3rd time lucky, at least I can now change a caliper in 10 mins instead of a day now

Can't decide now what to do about transport. Don't really want a trailer sitting around, A frame would be okay until we ever go down the route of a diff (not forgotten Andrew!) so thinking towing dolly might be the ideal compromise

Awesome news mate, have you sorted the throttle cable issue too? What safety gear did you have to sort out? Good luck with the event on 3rd may, i hope the weather holds for you!

    Re: Rally Project

    Utter Utter Utter Cock

Arrived to heavy showers to a tight a twisty circuit. Perfect for fwd

Got through scrutineering but do have to box off the fluid reservoirs for the brake and clutch fluid as been mentioned twice now.

    On to the stages:

Stage 1 was blooming cold, raining at the start and sat on tarmac cut slicks. Encountered a spinning Civic on turn 4 and on second circuit suffered from a lack of gears on 2 corners and power loss coming out of a long left hander. Despite this managed =8th and a class stage best time, just 4 & 1 seconds off the 2 Evo 6's running so pretty chuffed

Stage 2 was run immediately afterwards and we sat in the queue in absolute pissing rain, so survival was the key, still managed a half decent run till having to stop dead for a spinning Escort and then complete power loss again coming out of a long left hander (is this likely to be fuel pump related?????). Gear/clutch gremlins also struck with clutch failing to engage. Slower by 2 seconds but still in touch in class

Stage 3 No great drama, circuit still very damp and some really tight hairpins, plenty of handbrake turns which went well, other than having gear selection problems exiting, definitely gremlins in the system. 2nd in class but picking up speed in the technical parts of the circuit and once again passing spinning competitors.

Stage 4 Set off well, turn 1 good, turn 2 nailed it into turn 3 and......nothing, no gears, clutch disengaged. Game over.

Managed eventually to get car into a gear to drive out of the stage, but found fluid pissing out of the slave cylinder. Couldn't find a fix for it, retired.

Soooooo pissed off as we were on for a good event. Was just perfect set up for tweetie.

Coming home, tyre blew on towing dolly, 3 miles down road the spare tyre blew as well. nightmare. 3 hours to go 30 miles.

Fed up with clutch issue now. How much hassle would it be to find and fit a GT Turbo pedal box and have a good old standard clutch cable???

Cheers Matthew Beginning to feel like I need some devine intervention to get Tweetie right

Ol' B-cup was so reliable, this one just seems to be a real test of patience at the mo. Yesterday was just so right in track/weather & grip, was a great chance to show what we can do, so on a big downer at mo

At least Ian Hardy caught a few good pics of us, even with dry tarmac slicks, we managed to go for it

I think the slave cylinder sounds quite a straight forward fix at least you've identified the problem.. maybe it had too much travel and blew the seals? mine only just has enough.. I think if you rebuilt it and bleed a little off you should get it right

You seem to have some excellent grip.. lifting your rear tyre it the wet!!

I'm sure you'll sort it mate!! and the end of the day your rallying look forward to your next report..

Think you are right about too much travel Andrew, ties in with the solution taken to at least get us out of the stage (smacked the slave arm with the jack handle till it pushed in far enough to let us move)

and yup, grip was fab, even on the dry's. The Escorts & M3's were just sat spinning their wheels whilst we were able to take really tight lines with ease

Shame they only do one rally a year there.

Had a quick natter with Bob Pope (Bob hired b-cup at the thruxton celebration) whilst at Teesside, they are buying 2 KTM X bows for track days, should be fun round there
