Laguna DCi, anything i need to know?

Looking at Renault Laguna DCi estates on autotrader, models between 2001 and 2002 as they're in my price range. As the title states is there anything really bad about this car that i need to know, any known problems you've heard of about these cars would be appreciated

Are these the card entry ones and card starts? Believe they have some problems with those, well I have heard of a couple which need them replacing as it stops them locking the car up.

Aaaah right, well i've just rang up an ad in the trader and we're going to have a look at it this Sunday. It's a 51 plate estate in pale green and up for £2350

    turbo?

    My Dad has failed:

    front suspension spring
    turbo
    rear dampers
    rear axle bushes
    gearbox
    clutch

    2002 ~80K miles

Oh yeah, and one of those keycard things

Re: Laguna DCi, anything i need to know?

Nightmare cars I think. Lad in work has a 53plate laguna 2L:

Trashed gearbox (I changed for him)
Broken front coil spring (happend on his drive lukily)
    Window regs died (expensive!)
Heater does not work properly (not too bothered)
    Air con pump died (likewise)
Key-card things forever falling apart, develping dry joints and working intermittently (I've repaired more times than I can remember)
Key-card holder on dashboard failed, car would not switch off (I repaired in my lunch break)

otherwise, loverly cars You really want a Mazda 6, about the same price range but without the rattly french build.

Re: Laguna DCi, anything i need to know?

Mmmm, sounds like i should stay well away from these cars

I've heard a couple of stores about the card keys, the 1 i'm supposed to be looking at has had the turbo replaced and is still under warranty.

Is it worth checking the paperwork to see if the parts you've mentioned and have changed might have been done? 1st impressions would make this Laguna 2 out to be a nightmare car and Renault left with something maybe they wished they had't brought out into production.

If it's that bad i should walk away, my other options are a Passat estate, 307 HDi, Volvo V40 T4, Volvo 850 R. I need a bigger car for work

Personally rich, Passat!... Speak to mark as he now has one so can give you his opinion? I really like them and from what ive seen fairly trouble free?

Re: Laguna DCi, anything i need to know?

My dad had a passate TD as a company car. only trouble was the turbo ate itself up and spat itself out somewhere.

If you dont mind the name go with a skoda as the passat and skoda octavia are pretty much identical cars anyway plus you get a lot more items with the skoda for your money.

I have one of these a Saab 95 Aero Hot, Fully loaded, drives like a dream and for an estate has a lot of go in it, cruises motorways with no cabin sound at all.

    cracking piece of kit.

Re: Laguna DCi, anything i need to know?

Sounds like it could be worth looking at then, I need an estate for work tools but need the seats for when the missus and i with my daughter go out. A van is no good to me so the estate is the option and this 1 seems to look good and have a bit of poke.

I don't wanna get all Focus or Mondeo diesel'd up, i'd like something with some ooomph under the bonnet

V70R AWD gets my vote. Or Scooby Wagon WRX classic shape.

If you go with a Laguna. Watch for EGR valve that can get clogged - performance hits the deck.

I take it he has 1 then, blimey not seen him for ages! The 1 i'm going to look at is an 850 R estate manual, FSH, original bill of sale, PDI sheet, loads of paperwork. Black, looks quite nice. Just did a quick Google search and they're 2.3L turbo, 250bhp, 253 ft/lbs, can remap to 287bhp

The R by the looks of things are more bhp, Auto versions are 240 and manual are 250bhp
