You know Etcha sketch rolling road is da best still was the most powerful 5 that day @ the R&R session with all the probs showing on the R&R not a bad result for 16psi either. God damm water injection damping the spark big time and massive overfueling with the MSM carb. You guys all know things changed straight after that session water injection dumped, MSM carb ditched, VNT setup properly to have full boost @ 2800rpm and 24psi of fanimold boost, and a properly fettled standard venturi carb for the boost and setup using my LM-1 (How I do miss that engine now).:burnrubber:

Well if this conversion doesn't work out for me I may consider turboing it sooner than planned or going back to C1J to the same spec as my last engine.

Ok the chap came to give me the quote, top bloke.
He worked in africa alot of his life from what i gatherd, and is amazing at body pannle fabrication etc, meaning he does not like to waste any materials.

He assesed the rust.

- Rear quarters
- sill spots
- rear Arch
- windscreen surround

He was very confident he could fix all the rust with out the need for new pannles.

He also said about paint types, one is a base with a top clear coat, the other is 2 solid coats. he said solid would be the best option, and the results are not noticable??

Anyway he quoted 3k for the whole job, thats the welding and spraying the car inside and out/ includeing the bay.

So as 3k was kind of my budget max im happy. Going on the work they have done it looks awsum. so i hope mine turns outthe lickety split

JRP
17-05-2009, 17:41
In two minds, engine is secret squirrel, although it will be a C1j in situ ;)

Interior, im not sure. I love the stripped out look and feel, but for a mint interior all i need is a new drivers seat and passenger side rear door card

Ok... been down the body shop, the guy is actualy a work horse he just dont stop until he needs to. I found out today he is 64, and has serious heart problems in 3 months he is in to have loads of parts fitted to his heart, he shouldnt be working but loves it so much he carrys on...

Any way i pointed out a few runs to him and they will be sorted.

Welding and rust work is actualy amazing, i think he made sills up from scratch for me and did them because he said the others look like they would rust. That was at no extra fee.

and he found several bits of rust i didnt find and sorted them for no extra.

Around the windscreen and windows are like new!!! hahaha i almost collapsed when i saw them.

I just hope in daylight its as good as it looks, bumpers and kit all sprayed although im leaving them off the car so i can do under arches etc with out worrying about killing the kit.

I wish id bought new doors, slight imperfections in the metal ohh well ile buy them another day... (bill shhhhhhhh)

I really like it, yeah some holes can be picked but ohh well, he done shed loads of stuff :)

it looks awsum, 2 or 3 bits im not happy with. But he said take it away fit all the car up inside, engine etc '' your bound to scratch it or somthing'' once its running bring it back and ile put right the bits that are wrong.

+he will do a proper polish and wax on it.

Also he and the owner said in the day light ile undoubtable find more bits that aint right. so just make notes of them and they will rectify any wrong bits.

If you're trying to avoid engine bay scrathes, wack the engine on the subframe and bolt it in from underneath (the front end is stupidly light, I can lift it. That's unless you're super skilled in the art of lowering an engine into a car.

What why does it? i could build loads up on that. but lifting the 5 hmmm thats an epic task

Adam L
14-07-2009, 00:44
You'd be suprised how light the front end is. although it's liftable by 1 man, i'd stick the engine/subframe on a couple of skateboards if you're poor, or a proper wheely board and lift the car with an engine crane and lower the shell over the running gear gently.

For example i need a mint steering wheel and boss.

Neeed some help.

Toying with the idea of taking the 5 total back to o.e interior wise.

Also make the exterior look o.e so ile just store the cup wheels away. and get one of my speed line sets on.

Question is should i keep going, cage it, harneses seats etc like ive always wanted.

or do i make the interior as mint as i possibly can standard wise.

I really am stuck between the two... thing is i have drilled the holes for the cage already, so they would require welding up.

hmmmm help appreciated

I've got a similar thought to you. I'm getting alot of parts together for next year to make mine minty mint, but realy don't know which way to go as I have always had stripped out Slaggggs, and love them and want to get alot more track days under my belt, buf I also want the euro look with nice subtle interior , which I have already, ow which way to go.

Update, Electrics all checked and working ok woooooo :)

A few issues, the cars in neutral according to the gear stick, yet its in gear.

No 3rd 4th or 5th

At a guess just fiddle with the gear linkage?

Apart from that just gotta sell cage and cup wheels and ile finnish her off :)

At least it is wanting to turnover :) before you replace the tdc john try another relay by the aei to see if that helps give spark if not then get another tdc. Remember matey if there is no spark there will be no fuel. The flywheel wheel will trigger the tdc which will then give spark which will also send a signal via the aei to the fuel pump relay which will activate the fuel pump.
