Such a wicked project this :)

When it's finished mechanically, I'd remove the rear spoiler, replace the wing mirrors with OE, paint the car a glossy black (including the bonnet), and the wheels silver.

Making it something like a next generation of this:

pick them up tonight from a bloke in gt yarmouth, along with some grill and bumper moulds of various styles:D

the idea being to produce the arches from the plug, build out/re shape the profile, and use these as a new plug, will be looking into doors bonnets /boots and grills also in the next year or so;)

I like that approach mate, I think the idea I'm gonna go with is to flare the original arch on the car with fabrication work. I've seen it done before on a Citroen ax, that's runnings cossie 2wd running gear.

Personally I'm not gonna do it, a good friend of mine is a fabricator, my welding looks like random bird droppings :ashamed:

engine up and running again, sounds like a v8!!! the cam is a little lumpy:laugh::laugh::laugh:
the engine lost its low drone burble, and now gives out a crisper,but somewhat deepish raspy sound:pand the turbo seems responsive, 0.2 bar @3800rpm static idle:p, but to early to really tell, should be good though:D

gearbox and gears all seem to work, but the clutch is a bit hard!!!!!!well thats an understatement its ****ing hard!!!, and is very much on or off within 15mm of pedal travel!!!!!its going to take some getting use too,i dont think i will be doing much town driving in it:scared:

well time for an update, car is on the rollers on the last friday of this month, built some home made det fenders, using some of my old ear defenders from work, and bolted in place of the o.e knock sensor position on my 1.8 f7p head, (had a bolt machined up to match the head) along with the electronic knock tec device, also the 560cc injectors which i was going to use in the second fuel rail, are really low impedance, and proving to be a nightmare to get resistors for, and were probabley still to small for the boost i wanted to run:ashamed:, and i dont want to piss about with the injector loom again, so bit the bullet and bought some 80lb siemens deka high impedance injectors instead:cooter:, there suppose to be good for 875cc @ 3bar fuel pressure, coupled with the 350cc injectors ive got in the head, gives me just over 1200cc, which should be more than enough for the 2 bar of boost im going to run, without pushing the duty cycle to much;).

the high lift/short duration cam combo+uprated springs and caps /fully flowed ported head with megane inlets/williams exhaust valves should really help here, sticking with the modded o.e inlet plenum with the ****ty restrictive tb, replaced for the single 86mm id aftermarket type, i know others have had good results with shorter runners /fabricated inlets, but i really want to keep as much ftlb as possible, something shorter runners lose, now that i have a 02m gearbox in place, i should have nothing to fear:laugh::laugh:, ive got the space why not:D, that and the equal length tubular exhaust manifold should really breath all the way to 8800rpm:D although i expect i wont see full boost until around 4000/4500rpm @ 2bar:scared: but there has to be a compremise somewhere:p

i have fitted the biggest compressor housing(.70) and almost the biggest turbine housing( tial type.82) to the gtx3071r:laugh:, at 2 bar it may well be fairly close to choke up, although i have found a .106:eek: single scroll housing in the states if needed:laugh:, to be honest if it chokes up i will leave it as is , i would really like to make the 500whp, fingers and toes crossed it will with a bit of jungle juice:cooter:

well time for an update, car is on the rollers on the last friday of this month, built some home made det fenders, using some of my old ear defenders from work, and bolted in place of the o.e knock sensor position on my 1.8 f7p head, (had a bolt machined up to match the head) along with the electronic knock tec device, also the 560cc injectors which i was going to use in the second fuel rail, are really low impedance, and proving to be a nightmare to get resistors for, and were probabley still to small for the boost i wanted to run:ashamed:, and i dont want to piss about with the injector loom again, so bit the bullet and bought some 80lb siemens deka high impedance injectors instead:cooter:, there suppose to be good for 875cc @ 3bar fuel pressure, coupled with the 350cc injectors ive got in the head, gives me just over 1200cc, which should be more than enough for the 2 bar of boost im going to run, without pushing the duty cycle to much;).

the high lift/short duration cam combo+uprated springs and caps /fully flowed ported head with megane inlets/williams exhaust valves should really help here, sticking with the modded o.e inlet plenum with the ****ty restrictive tb, replaced for the single 86mm id aftermarket type, i know others have had good results with shorter runners /fabricated inlets, but i really want to keep as much ftlb as possible, something shorter runners lose, now that i have a 02m gearbox in place, i should have nothing to fear:laugh::laugh:, ive got the space why not:D, that and the equal length tubular exhaust manifold should really breath all the way to 8800rpm:D although i expect i wont see full boost until around 4000/4500rpm @ 2bar:scared: but there has to be a compremise somewhere:p

i have fitted the biggest compressor housing(.70) and almost the biggest turbine housing( tial type.82) to the gtx3071r:laugh:, at 2 bar it may well be fairly close to choke up, although i have found a .106:eek: single scroll housing in the states if needed:laugh:, to be honest if it chokes up i will leave it as is , i would really like to make the 500whp, fingers and toes crossed it will with a bit of jungle juice:cooter:

Lookign forward to seeing this done Andy, will she be at national day?

Might do a Fast and Furious night to get the juices flowing LOL.

I can see a wheelie coming:D
how did you get on with that knocktek device? did it indicate knock at all before you heard it? That is if you heard knock hopefully not.:cooter:

give me chance:ashamed::laugh: not running boost yet, but it didnt give any false blips few months back , when running on 3 cylinders, so its got half a chance:)

(feed to the coil pack had worked loose , running on 3)

Good luck tomorrow Andy, hope you get the figures your looking for, or there abouts. If not, get to Scoff for some real mapping.

For those that don't know, Handy's build has come to this point, and hopefully this will be the part where he stops building and gets driving.

Good luck buddy - wish I was there to witness this happening.

Get some VT shot.

sorry for the late reply , been really pissed of mood yesterday, to the point if there was a can of petrol ,and matches i would have tourched the ****ing thing!!!!! turned out to be a complete waste of time:(
car was worse than ever,

need to look at the cam timing today, as it was suggested it was causing the issue, although im not convinced it is that, as we tdc it and dial guaged lift etc, and all seemed acceptable as to pipers spec for 285 profile, exhaust was also seemed ok , although there are no offical measurements for these cams anywhere :(

engine would not run more than -9 degress retard on ignition full stop:cry:

and the 02m gearbox decided to throw up oil out of the breather tube when under load, is this a common effect with theses or did i over fill it, (just so its level with on fill up bolt /hole in the front of box ):scratch:

air intake temps= 55 at 24 psi although the k type air temp showed 35 degrees:scratch:
egt =680 degrees
produced boost from 2500rpm

bhp was around 330bhp at 24 psi which i thought was utter ****e, considering all the headwork, manifolds etc:cry:

im going too look again at the timing today, and sort out a breather system for the box, and find where the coolant sprung a leak from also:(

and compression test, although i will be really surprised if that shows anything a miss, the engines only done 1800miles:coffee:and a 1000 of them where running in under varying loads:sad2:

Not good.
Chin up, you'll get there.

Mines been off the road for nearly 2yrs as I wanted to "improve" the inlet design and chargecooler setup lol.
Just take it easy, it will be worth it eventually lol.

HAndy
01-06-2013, 20:12
compression test done, no 2 is way down 45 psi, 3,4 were 175psi and 1 was 160 psi,
took of cam cover and had a feel, inlets fine and tappets turning freely, exhaust wouldnt budge, turned over cams until inlet/exhaust valves on no 2 cylinder all closed, and did a pressure test, no leaks found on exhaust side or in header tank or inlet, holding pressure with minimal leakage, didnt have a cylinder leak down kit :crap: but coupled the compression tester plug thread tube with a compressor line attached running 130psi, took out the cam carrier and inspected the tappets ,didnt look good, going to put in some good second hand items and try again :)

Don't get too down andy, what you've done so far is great, I love the look and feel of the blue sideways coffin, was a shame things didn't go as expected, was hoping to see a good run :(

I did say no. 2 manifold runner looked hotter than the rest so something isn't quite right, figure it out and I'm sure you'll get the results :smokin:

HAndy

back on track:cool:

exhaust tappets had stuck, loosing most of the compression available on cylinder 2, replaced all hydraulic tappets on engine with the items out of the spare engine, and changed the exhaust cam for a slightly higher lift, while i had the top half of the cylinder head apart:D

1= 145
2=138
3=146
4=145

so 2 is a little bit down but, happy to leave for the moment, and get it back for mapping once ive sorted out the gearbox breathing issue, and the water leak, which i could not find today:scratch:

conclusion=
the new tappets i bought, when i rebuilt the engine were not up to the job, and a note to all building a f7 turbo engine, stick with the renault /ina items, if you want trouble free reliability:ashamed:

Don't forget the gearbox could be tilted back more then it does in a vw or audi.

So maybe filling it till the oil comes out of the hole is way too much...
There's suppose to be 2.3l in it.

I hope you get it mapped again soon!

ive been thinking about more engine mods for a while now........., after seeing turbo teds (robs) fantastic results, and others, im going to follow suit, decided to really push the boat out and go extreme on this, my gtx 3071r wont get me to where i want to be its just not big enough without running huge boost levels:laugh: and will be purchasing either 76mm 11 blade comp wheel, and sticking with the turbine /housing ive already got (the cheaper option) giving me the best spooling/power output for what i already have or going gtx3582r and upgrading cams to a higher lift profile with mechanical lifters, and going for it:smokin: i know what jp, and oli will be saying, but in reality the car is unlikley to see the road this year, i already have the injectors and cc capacity in place, the rest of the valve train is already uprated, biggest inlet/exhaust valves port matched flowed head, tubular equal length manifold, 3" exhaust system , 02m box and uprated paddle clutch,leaving an upgrade to a bigger wastegate maybe? although if its going to be laggy then might not need to worry to much, im not going to settle for less than 500bhp at the rear wheels, ive spent the money, done the mods, now i want the rewards:laugh:

thoughts and views are welcome as always:)
know the gtx3076 will get me to 500bhp and quicker spooling than the gtx3582, but would the rpm spool up differences be worth holding back to a 60mm turbine wheel or going to the 68mm turbine and bigger compressor and go further ;)

As I said on the phone, finish the bodykit modifications and map it up with what you have now, it'll make 450bhp and that'll be plenty enough to get it shifting down the road, 450bhp will give you the same bhp per ton as a Bugatti veyron, it won't be shy fella
