cam,carb,turbo,fmic,slicks & a good driver
Pinch scoffs engine an box
How much time and money do you have? I think you will need more than just an internet forum to do this.
do you sit in it for 11 seconds?
lol just to discuss ideas
carb, turbo exhaust, air filter, fmic, pipe work, nitrous, pistons and liners, flywheels and clutch, gear box, driveshafts?, slick tyres, suspention, stripped interior, guages for just about everything, oil cooler, new radiator and the list goes on at a guess but there is a start
more than 20psi in a new turbo, 60mm side exit exhaust, tubular exhaust manifold, front intercooler, group a carb, more...
more to the point.. id like to know what gianni santi's gtt has had done to the engine, isnt that supposedly the most powerful c1j around at the moment.? 430bhp or something
strip the car,
slicks,
get the gearing right with the gearbox/tyre combo.
30+psi from a turbo with a A/R over 0.49 (eg.- 0.64)
cam with a power band to allow the turbo's lagginess to be complimented.
and also getting the car to be driven by an anorexic midget helps.
Just for the info Gianni didn't break into 11s until the Santa Pod. Track surface plays a big role.
I think forged pistons, steel liners standard t2 making 16psi and about 125hp of nitrous.
Ofcorse stripped out and slicks
Decent cam and matching turbo, lots of carb work, good cooler + clutch, about 30hp of gas and 25psi boost, slicks and semi strip and your there, the rest of the engine can stay stock if you like...
just found the thread, been without laptop for quite a while, i use a 0.49, have no lag and weigh 12 stone lol
In all seriousness, i did an 11.4 oct 2005 and since then have changed loads with the car incl adding nos and have only matched the ET but have pushed up the terminal, defo right about it takes more than a thread but its a good place to start, i've been tuning this ren since 1996 and have got through more money and more hours than i would dare add up
I think the one thing that people have missed out of this thread is the time and effort it takes to TUNE an 11 second engine.
Forget parts lists, that's not even scratching the surface. Put aside about 5 years of your life, you'll need that time to develop the perfect carburettor, compression ratio, ignition timing, fuel type, camshaft type, camshaft timing, exact engine component choice, gear ratio's, suspension settings.. the list is almost endless.
I spent 4 years tuning the C1J (thats about 10 rebuilds, £1000's in parts and god knows how many man hours) I managed 12.1 @ 116mph. Maybe with better tyres I'd have dropped into 11's. Stuart has spent more than twice that time developing, his time shows it. Gianni too. It's all in the tuning
i think a low 10 second maybe into the 9's could be poss . but it would be a one run set up each time and more than lighty a rebuild each run
extream set up
have a look into real drag racing and see how they do it
top fuelers run the 1/4 in about 5 seconds . but they have to rebuild the engine each and every run
learning to drive the 1/4 can take seconds off your time and it aint about being bruttle
So how do you get one into the 13's then? (that'd do me fine!)
No one has mentioned it yet but, some C16 Race Fuel would help a lot too. As long as the engine is tuned to suit.
Weak points on the GTT C1J (and gearbox) when power starts to climb
- Gearbox - strengthen gear set or covert another stronger box (Scoff's VAG Box coversion)
- 25mm Carb Venturi - Twin carb (tuff set up), different Carb (developement time) or EFI
- Piston ring lands - forged pistons
- T2 Turbo - Something T25/28 or T3 size
- Turbo Elbow/Exhaust - turbo back down pipe and zorst of at least 2.5 inches
The above is without thinking about how the power is going to be put on to the tarmac?
in fact, if you wanted to do it really easily, you could take an average 12.5 sec gtt, and pop some wheelie bars on there, 11`s easy
collin, take seconds off the 1/4 mile time by switching driver? id like to see that! its not hard drag racing, and req`s the least amount of driver skill of propably any motorsport going, especially with launch contol etc, its easyyy, we only see max of .3 seconds or so between the 3 of us driving the car, if you could come and take another second off that for us, well the beers are on us
i believe its something like that, seen some rather impressive back to back pulls with that q16, plus the fact you could probably get away with another 5degrees of timing
