Starting with my refurbished Koni sports thanks to my good friend Mr Smith - this just need a top coat now.
And so on to todays progress removed turbo, radiator and a few other parts.
Doesn't seem like much but took me all afternoon.
Also found me spare has a brand new MXV on it
Great progress and a good read

Nice thread, Have you been doing the stripping out outside on your drive?
I have thought about doing this as I have no garage at the minute

Ha Ha tell me about that one mate, its definetly given me the inspiration to do it on my drive though seeing you doing it, I guess the missus would have a grumble at me cleaning bits up in the dining room though , I guess she would get over it
Got some photos from Simon who's doing the welding on my 5
Car is now rot free - and this was a 5 that looked pretty solid when I bought it.
New inner and outer sills plus jacking points and a few other areas repaired - totally quality work.
Here the photos for anyone interested - hopefully get the 5 back later in the week.
Great work, good to know it will be all solid when it returns!
So cool. Desperate to get mines started
Quality work that James. All the best for the rebuild
Great stuff James
Looking good matey
Cheers all
Hopefully back on Tuesday night. Think next step is to tackle rear beam.
Great work. That trip to the bodyshop has just prolonged the life of this GTT by miles
great stuff a full strip down is the way forward
Some top work there.
Just goes to show how much seam sealer is hiding on some of these cars no matter how solid they look in areas.
When i had my jacking points done the rotten floor pan was amazing, looked decent all paint still in tact until you tapped it and it sounded crunchy
Had to replace right up to half way up the clutch pedal. The amount of hidden rot was unreal.
Good effort for getting it all sorted.
All these minty underside of gtt's is making me want to get busy on a bare shell resto......shame the bank manager says no
thanks james..glad your happy with work done, its gave me big motivation to crack on and finish mine. thanks mate.
Little Update
5 now home - so have started working on some of the brackets.
Also decide to get water pump off block, only two dodgy bolts which came out with mole grips - not bad to say its original water pump!
All brackets have been U-pol Acid 8 and then Engine enamelled except pedal box which was satin black'd.
Few photos for anyone interested
Looking great pal! When's she getting a fresh coat then?
Good work its coming along well
The pedal assembly looks brandnew! Also, liking the light lamp dryer set up.
Nice job Jimmy5
Great stuff, keep at it
Cheers all - starting to get a few things sorted.
Need a new heater box and need to source new fuel and brake lines.
Not looking forward to overhauling calipers but they will need doing.
Not sure Andy when shes going for paint. depends what quote is when I get it.
You really need a garage lol my mrs would kill me..
Little short of cash at the moment so R5 part spend has been curtailed.
However have been refurbishing a few more parts.
Had to get a new heater box as the control tabs are broken on the original. Sorted all that and when I tried connecting heater controls the housing snapped so now need a new heater control unit!
Anyway Ive carried on with parts overhaul Completed the rocker cover today and my koni shocks which are now in OE Black!
Pics for anyone interested.
Nice work fella, re-furbing parts mostly time and paint so great way to keep things moving until payday, look like new!
Love seeing parts being refurbished like this, nice mate
Bang up
I could read threads like this all day
Keep up the great work
That light blue sticker with the spark gap instructions is a nice touch. If I had a standard 5 I know I'd be a nightmare for getting things just right
Awesome James
One question on the new radiator fan motor, mine never didn't come with the locking fan nut and it has been a right pig finding one as they are reverse turn and 1.0 pitch I couldn't get mine of the old one where did you get yours?
Nice progress James
