    F7R conversion step-by-step guide

    Hi guys,

recently started with Megane Coupe F7R 714 conversion into my GTT. fitting turbo is also on to-do list.

I will put all useful info and pics that can help other noobs like me. I would like to thank Jonathan - JP Racing and Turbo Ted for start push with basic guidelines.

    Lets start...

Stock F7R 714 with all auxiliaries attached (AC compressor, alternator, tensioner with pulley, power steering pump). Everything is attached to engine block with two aluminum brackets that need to be removed in order to fit R5 GTX (on some European market there was R5 1.6D which uses same parts) L shaped bracket for engine mount and alternator holder.

After upper mentioned stock aluminum brackets are removed you can fit R5 GTX / R5 1.6D engine mount. On pic below is GTT mount on the left and GTX on the right.

Test fit how GTX engine mount and GTX alternator bracket fit on engine block. Perfectly!

    More to come these days...

I removed fron left and rear engine mount bracket from JB3 (stock GTT gearbox) and placed it on JC5. Straight fit.

Test fit of GTT driveshaft on Meganes JC5 gearbox output. Splines fit 100% and security pin holes match.

After that, everything was ready to test fit F7R lump in the engine bay. I left all three stock GTT engine mounts in.

    Rear engine mount:

    Front left engine mount:

    Front right engine mount:

    Lump ready!

Its in! Note: It is better to remove intake and exhaust manifold and fit em after engine is on the mounts.

    Re: F7R conversion step-by-steb guide

I made a mistake. Front right engine mount needs to be one of the R5 GTX so engine can fit as it should.

Other two mounts are spot on.

    Re: F7R conversion step-by-steb guide

Although front engine mounts fit like a glove I will made lower custom ones and lower subframe on two front connecting points so that bonnet can fully close.

With such setup i will gain a bit space on the rear for tubular exhaust manifold and keep stock rather massive F7R inlet manifold.

Plan is to make custom 10mm thick washers, 45mm in diameter as subframe spacers.

Front right engine mount will be made 20mm lower and front right 10mm lower. That will balance side-side engine pretty well.

    Re: F7R conversion step-by-steb guide

This is problematic point where bonnet is in contact with the engine. It is distribution belt / camshaft pulley aluminum cover.

It will be sorted with upper mentioned custom engine mounts.

I'm planing to fit upper engine mount in front of right strut tower? Many cars (R5 with engine F7P/F7R conversions) do not have it. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the info. I noticed but I would like to make it stock as possible and making new engine mounts is not much of fuss and money as well as lowering the subframe.

I am planing to weld piece that has been cut of the Megane chassis and use stock F7R upper engine bracket and engine mount. I'm just wondering not what to use but use mount at all. Since project is going turbo route think its better to have one.

Another way is to trim a section off the underside of the bonnet.

I'd swap out that megane gearbox if I were you, it's very short ratio, 4grand in 5th gear for 70mph

What would you recommend instead of JC5 091? I'm planing to use car on 1/4 mile run only...

    No VAG conversion though.

I will use upper engine mount of Megane and get rid of lower right engine mount of GTX. With such setup i will determine height of the engine without custom made engine mounts. I will determine desired engine height (so bonnet can freely close) and weld upper engine mount holder.

On the left side i just made hole in the subframe bit bigger and lowered engine mount screwing point 10mm.

    Pics to follow.

Just use a stock 5gtt box, should hold up ok till u hit 280ft lb

If your planning running more a JC5 off a Clio 172 would probably be a better bet

Pretty sure the GTX metal bit can be used with the GT Turbo rubber part.
I used a re-drilled R5 GT Turbo mount on mine as I couldn't find a GTX at the time & it didn't foul the bonnet, not sure if the megane is larger/higher though.
