    182 valve removal

Right guys bought/got hold of a Clio 182 with snapped cam belt, any way long story short any one had the pleasure of taking the inlet and exhaust valves out and if so what tool did you use, they are set quite deep in the head and my normal valve compressor won't get in there, any help appreciated

I had a 172 with all 16 valves bent, its was cheaper to buy a second hand head and matching rocker cover than fcuk about with valve replacement. how many valves you got belt ??

I didn't in the end, i could see the valves were belt by just looking at them, Is there any damage to the cylinder walls as the valves normally makes contact on the cylinder wall when the piston tw*ts them?

Nope no visible damage looks like the valves have just kissed the top of the pistons hardly a mark but I want to take the valves out to check them!

Don't need to take the valves out to check them....
Just get the manifolds off, turn the cam so the valves are in the closed position, (base circle of cam) shine a small torch into the port and turn the room light off. If you see any light from the valve head area it means the valve is bent.

Going on a previous experience i'd say you would be extremly lucky not to have at least 4 bent valves.. the others may not look bent till you get them out either... new ones £138 off ebay for all 16.. so yeas it may be cheaper to replace the head if you can find one. I replaced all mine, belts, tensioners.. while its all off if you are keeping the car do the dephaser & water pump...

A mate stripped my head & replaced everything.. not sure if he has a modified compressor or not. Also take into account you DO need the special locking tools for the cams etc.

Yeah I want to take the valves all out for a check, the head is completely stripped and on the bench, just the valves to come out now, will try making a tool up later to compress the springs I think, they are so low in the head I just can't get the arm of the compressor around the head without hitting the side
