    Smoke again

Iv just put a new turbo on the 5 after the old one let go, iv done about 30 miles and she has fooked this one now!
I primed it too feck before starting, had decent oil pressure and was up to tempresure before running her, I'm sick as fook
Iv just been out and pulled the dipstick out and there was a small fragment off metal stuck to it!!! Do you think iv had crap in the oil ?from when the engine let go last time?
On a proper downer with this car now, just can not get it up and running for a more than a month and it just ****s it self,I'm not even driving it like a **** ether

    Re: Smoke again

Best you drop that oil and see what's going on.
If you've found swarf that will certainly kill a turbo in no time. I did the same on a brand new t28 and that was a £250 mistake.
Do not fit another blower untill your sure the swarf is out.
Secondly where is the swarf coming from ?

    Re: Smoke again

Check the oil feed pipe isn't blocked up abit mate

Are you measuring oil pressure on the original gauge or a mechanical one? I can't remember

Also worth draining the oil out again, make sure there's nothing else in there. When I changed the pistons for you I cleaned out the sump for you but can never tell what's floating round the oil galleries

Also possibility is the condition of the turbo you bought, was it a new item or a used one?

I got the turbo off jamie it was only a year old and sweet as a nut, going to drop the oil now and try and see what's going on!
I will put the t 2 back on and flush the engine out a few times with clean oil, iv just been on the Ashie and he is sending me a link to put a in line oil filter on the oil feed, just hope it has not been ****ing the engine while running!
Where should I send this turbo to get built back up?

I recon it's bits of crap from when it **** it's self at national day, it's never really been run since, and like Marky said it could have been lurking anywhere, gunna do a few oil changes hopefully that will help, just worried what other damage it maybe causing, dread to think

Drain the oil and give it a run up with the T2 on, worth sticking an oil feed filter on but keep check on it as these can block up easily and kill and turbo just as quick

    Re: Smoke again

Iv just been out in the coooolld and dropped the oil, then ran the oil through a white tshirt
And there was no signs off metal in the oil at all? That could be good news!
It's too late in the day too take the sump off I will have a crack on Friday,iv ordered a new oil filter and 15 litres of oil,so going to flush it 3 times, get rid of the one way valve, and send the turbo off and get an inline filter fitted.
Think I will just run that t2 for a few hundred miles before I stick the t25 back on

You can leave it in place but remove the internals so it doesn't affect your pipe run. I'm pretty sure its a Allen key in there and the bits will all come out.

So that the oil stays in the pipe and keeps the turbo bearing wet???
My car always took a while to start to technically it primed it every time before the engine fired.

are you certain the turbo is screwed..... have you checked for play in the shaft? run the engine without the oil cap on to see if its a breather issue.

Iv got a small bit of rocker pressure no more than before!
It's smoking the same as the last turbo, she does not smoke until a little boost is applied and as soon as I let my foot off the gas,she starts to smoke like crazy ,till it passes the oil, going to drop my t2 back on after iv flushed out the system mate, that should illuminate any other causes as I know the turbo is good

Also the turbo was sweet as a nut last weekend,it's ether picked up some crap or starved of oil, well that's my guess so far,I'm not the best at problem solving but this engine is throwing them all at me!

Is there a restrictor on the oil feed pipe ? No chance too much oil pressure into the turbo and its fouling the rear seal ?

Turbo was a win, it hardly done any miles, Jamie's car ran well and it only got broken due to the clutch pedal going and lack of interest.. His original turbo ran fine and was only removed for this turbo.. Hes had no history of problems with his engine/turbos, it always ran spot on..

Alan's had the worst luck with his engine/s, I'm pretty sure its at fault.. I'd slap on a working t2 and try kill it.. I'd also like to see the t2/t25 checked or put onto another engine and make sure it is fuked..

Chances of screwing two tyebos that quick are slim. Either massive boost leak overspeeding turbo or a breather/ring/split or worn guide.

    Re: Smoke again

Well pulled the sump, not nice viewing at all ! And the shells are fooked and crank scored!
    Lets start again
Let this be a waning, I dropped the oil and ran it though a cloth to catch anything in the oil,and it came out clean as a whistle! But once I took the sump, off there was metal all over the place! Looked a bit like a xmas snow ball when you shake it lots of little flakes of soft metal.
There must be pockets in the sump that catches the bits ? Or the flow of dropping the oil is not strong enough to drag them out, anyway I know it's a bit extreme but I'm going to drop my sump every 4/5 oil change just to see and clean proper, for what time it takes! Only takes one little gremlin to kill ya car!

lol so strong putting the sump plug back in after a change becomes a mission in it's self.

I got them from Motorsport developments, they're up in Blackpool. As I think there's a few company's with that name.

Not that I am doubting you mate - but why do you say that ?

    Garrett reckon the following

    low High
    Idle, no load ------------ 10 psi ------------------------ 25 psi

    Engine at 1500 rpm ----- 67 psi ------------------------- 67 psi

Hence me saying restrict the flow of oil - so it doesnt go past the rear seal.

Alan, not sure what your plan is but if your rebuilding then I would suggest a complete strip down and have the block cleaned in a tank.

Iv got an oe engine I'm going to drop in tomorrow, and going to build a good one out the other 2, but the one with all the metal in I'm going to just scrap that block, there is gremlins all over the place in that one mate, not going to chance it,iv got 2 cams,I will just rob the springs and vernier from this one and rebuild the original one that I got with the car, that one just had low compression, on cylinder 3' so it my be a easy fix if iv got a good liner, and piston laying around.
I might even go full hog and just do a full new build, iv got time on my hands now !so options

I can't remember what thread size I bought it was about five years ago. I remember they didn't list one for the gt turbo but they did for the 11 turbo so bought 5 of them for me and the local lads.
