Count yourself lucky you could be in my shoes and be looking after two 20 month olds with stomach bugs all on my tod! I know what i would rather be doing right now
Got to credit your commitment as the rust appeared quite extensive, most would have either scrapped and given up or re-shelled.
update on the resto
got the carpet fitted, gearbox back in place, sorted a whole mount of messy wiring out, both seat mounts fitted plus both seats fitted. hoping get other bits and bobs done asap.
popped round the garage on way back from the gym got a couple of quick pics of the front seats back in the car (yes i know they aint in the best condition but my funds wont allow to buy new uns until end of the year).
i have also been spending some more money with my good mate mike at gt turbo spares, have bought a brand new genuine renault gear gaitor and new pedal rubbers. Will be getting a few more new bits soon eg new headlights, rear lights etc
how much where the rubbers? things like that really freshen up a car
defo agree there pal, they were £18.75
i forgot to add iv also got a new set of speaker grills and a new pair of rear wheel arch covers

Looks good mate i am looking for some recaros are the escort and fiesta ones are the same fitment i loved the ones i had in my s2 escort rs turbo
used to love my recaros in my old fiesta rs turbo, best seats ever put into a car as standard
also got a price on ceramic coating my exhaust housing, exhaust manifold and downpipe so looks like ill be getting that done sometime soon.
had a really good day working on the car today got all interior back in apart from front door cards as no point fitting them until after paint, its starting to come together and feel like a car again now i actually had a sit in it today for the first time in ages
my mate reckons he can crack on with it this week as he doesnt have much booked in

cheers matt not the best quality pics but gives you an idea, hopefully have a few of them things crossed off list this coming week/weekend
Are you going to remove all bumpers and bodykit for paint?
yes matey everything will be removed all trim, glass lights etc etc
Would it not have been easier mate to fit the interior back in after your full re spray just think of over spray dust getting on all your nice clean interior mate its a sod cause it can still get through the paper once taped up looking quality either way mate another great project saved from rusting away
I see what your saying there fella dont worry though as iv got a load of polythene sheeting that ill be covering everything with before it goes in.
Thanks for the kind words its nice that people can appreciate whats being done.
will be heading off up to the car again this coming saturday to do a bit more on it, would hope to have 3-4 things crossed off that list and who knows maybe my mate would of already done a couple
been up to the car for an hour today got a few jobs done and crossed off the list, fitted new gear gaitor, fitted new pedal rubbers and fitted the last bits of trim in the boot.
was hoping to get rear strut brace fitted but needed another pair of hands to help out, going whip the dials out and fit the new ones next week sometime
Good man! Andy the list will soon get smaller, went out in mine for the first time this year and it did the trick! No longer Wana sell just gota find time now to crack on with it lol
its going in the right direction thats all that matters
good on ya fella i told you that would change your mind
blunty well done dude, you have saved a r5, and the work looks good, you should be super happy..
Imo i think the seats are a bit to red for your car and eventually maybe a better fitting sit, but of course thats my opinion only, and please only take it as that
cheers dj appreciate that
i know what you mean about the seats but for the moment they can do the job
it was defo a scrapper as you can see it was fecked
First post!
Hello mate, I used to own your 'yesmobile'! Glad you have restored it, I just re-joined RTOC today as I was thinking about getting a GTT again sometime.
I had the car for 4 years, bought it off some idiot who didn't tell me the clutch was on the way out (I should have figured it out really!) so first job owning a 5 was taking the engine out and changing the clutch. That was 8 years ago now!
It also came with some chav wheels, so I bought some turbines and painted them black, which I thought looked great (and still does judging by your pics!).
I sold the car early in 2009 as it needed money spending on it that I didn't have, only got £900 for her, but unfortunately I needed a more sensible car for work. I saw it on ebay a few months later, with some additional modifications, and with the water injection removed, I don't know why that was removed it did a top job of cooling boost.
It was a great car to drive, and I am really glad it is in good hands, your hard work will pay off when you come to sell it, they seem to be appreciating a lot.
I apologies for those horrible seats, the originals were wrecked and I found those buckets on ebay for 50 quid, which was a lot cheaper than fixing them.
I bet it is quick now you have tuned it up! It's good to see an original bodywork 5, there are a lot of bodykit ones on ebay, I never saw the need to change the bodywork as Renault did a great job on it!
Tom
fantastic piece of history Wish someone used to know my 5 lol
hi tom firstly welcome back to rtoc and good to hear your thinking of getting another r5gtt, iv got an rolling road day sorted for april 20th at noble motorsport in chesterfield maybe you could pop along and meet a few of the guys etc?
nice to hear a bit of history on the car and when iv looked back at the history you seem to have looked after the car well, thank god you changed the wheels .
it was an absolute nail when i bought it dont think the guy had got a clue tbh.
you would win that bet, its an absolute animal now and might just have a few more bhp when its up and running again.
good news a couple more jobs have been done on my car
braided brake hoses are now fitted
cupro nickel brake lines are now fitted
bad news iv had to get 2 new front brake calipers but got them for £55 each which i thought is not a bad price.
Every little helps mate... Not tesco
very true, bloody big job the brake lines are, especially with this nickel stuff as its alot harder than copper
took a quick couple of pics for anyone interested
