Good stuff ted keep it going mate looking forward to some more progress and pictures
Good to see the parts arriving, look forward to seeing this next year
Good work ted
Robbie as always top work looking forward to seeing this again
a colossal job on this car!!
bravo, good courage afterwards.
looking good, are you running the peloquin diff by any chance
was going to fit one, but need to get use to the car with an open diff first
are you running split gears from different boxes or have you stuck with a single type, erf,drw etc.
was going to get that clutch myself, but was informed that the oxide granules on the friction plate would'nt last more than 4000 miles, they built me a 4+ build, which is basicly the full cerametalic ring with solid centre. figured out cheaper than the stage 3+ also
used the uprated engine mounts on all corners, on mine and to be honnest it does'nt move one bit(piccys in project thread)
my only conern is the outer hubs splines shearing of, which will mean fitting bigger hubs etc cant remember if you fitted the 172 items either way great work rob ,bet you cant wait to get it going again, 9,s this year maybe, might need a bigger turbo though
Andy it's the CVs that fail before the splines. 172 CV's and hubs are much stronger.
cheers chris, hows your 5 doing, have you had anytime yet for the upgrades, cough, cough turbo
hi andrew the diff im using is a cheap version of the peloquin here's the link
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1609005340...84.m1497.l2648
scoff has used this diff so i know it worksusing petrol gears in the drw box clutch wise if it only lasts up to 4000miles in that time should do me for 4 years or 4 launches at podrunning 172 hubs already so shafts should be sorted, as for a bigger turbo no but maybe a twin stroll exhaust housing and more boost
No Andy, sticking with H pattern
Those Obx items seem to do the job good after a debur, replacement of the ****ty springs and correct tightening of the bolts.
Twin scroll is a good step forward too, although for pod i don't really think it's necessary.
However you're making good progress! Did the jc5 break in the end?
I bet as a child you used to break steel balls
small update
engine mounts now done and all mounted on subframe as i didn't want to mount the gearbox on the chassie leg so i made frame over the gearbox and made a new mount position on the back of the subframe.
doing a power steering conversion aswell managed to fit a clio williams rack its tight but it fits. also mounted the turbo in its new postion and made a new 3'' downpipe, manifold to do next i will leave that one to my fabricator which will be done over the christmas break.
thats all for now pictures below.
Looks the nuts rob well impressive mate
looking great Rob, you back at work now?
Robbie that is looking very impressive
Looking good Robbie, but power steering you getting a bit old & frail...
Looking good mate!
Looks like nice setup there. Are completely replacing the exhaust manifold or just reworking the old item?
hi everyone
the reason for power steering f7 lumps are heavy and now its going to be alot heavier with the vag box and i only have 300mm steering wheel, power steering will be ran off a electric pump so i won't lose any bhp, ollie the manifold is a complete new build and mr reed has bought the old one, new flywheel turned up today complements of scoff of efi parts and my new clutch from the states fits like a glove, fitted a mini master cylinder for my hydro clutch more pics added below robbie.
Looking very nice mate
What are the engine mounts off? Are they easily available?
Spot on Ted, looks amazing !!
All coming together now mate.. i was only pulling your leg about the power steering
Gonna be a beast once its finished thats for sure.
holy **** Rob!!!! are you expecting something to twist
the cast alloy casing will break around the bolt holes before anything else, i thought mine where solid(could shift them with two of us pulling on the engine/subframe
looking good though, how much does it weigh now? mine was 915kg before
hi mate
its the original flange and runners cut off the standard manifold the rest i made by hand alot drilling and filing out the 4 holes on flat plate to match the original runners then 120mm diameter tube cut with a slot to the size of the flat plate welded to flat plate and end caps to match.
Is that all? Fancy making another in a few months time?
make me an offer on that one and i will make another one
Temping... I'm in no rush at the moment, but if it was going at a bargain then who knows.
update new exhaust manifold pictures below
That was quick, what's his work like?
It looks good.
Looking great rob how long till its all done and running full boost again mate
this manifold has bigger diameter tube and longer runners===more boost
Looks really good Rob
Ooow sexy baby...
