Theres plenty to keep you busy there mate keep us updated with progress i take it your planning on doin it
Yeah just a few spots need doing :/
Yep i planning on doing it myself, not the best motor to learn to weld on but hey it's all good fun
So this will be your first welding project then ?
If you where closer i was going to offer you a hand but if you get stuck drop me a pm may be able to give you a couple of pointers
Spent a couple of hours cutting the rot out of the inner wing tonight, it'd be easier to replace the whole panel but you can't get them anymore so it's a patch up job :/
Keep another one alive chap
Ill do my best, even though I've only had it what 6 months and its a beat up old bird with no power I've grown really attached to it.
I've been researching them on the net and there's next to no one with them any more, these things are as rear as rocking horse s**t and any that turn in half decent condition get broken for parts she may only be a lowly middle of the range GTL but its still an example of the breed
Had a good days graft on the passenger side inner wing and its now solid and rot free
The welding isn't pretty but it's stronger and there's all I care about
Good job that mate well done
Good work you ol tart.
I hid the pigeon **** welding really well if you think that's good work
Lol it looks ok mate how long did it take
Yea at an big angle if its thin and then dnt try and make a continues weld straight away tack it and move heat is ur worst enemy i think your doin well tho alot of people would of scrapped that and u have done it in a day
Yea thats it mate its so tempting to try blast it to get it done but it just makes a mess when are you doin the other side ?
Two pieces have to be very close preferably touching, so as your going you find you need to tap them together.
also takes awhile to get the set sorted, too much power..... too much wire....
I agree tony it takes a while to get to know ur welder and u just gota practice practice practice
now you've opened a can of worms, but looks like your making progress. keep using it and do it a bit at a time or it will turn into a bit project. keep it tidy and your have the 9 lads wanting it off you in the future
my 11 looked as tidy as your 9 until i started taking bits off to find similar, along with previous accidents to the front and rear i'll finish it one day though.
What 9 lads? According to the dvla there's next to none left something like 8no. 9turbos left and that's on and off the road
It's got no MOT at the minute as I knew she wouldn't pass with hand size holes in the sills, so it's a case of doing all the welding now and make her solid so when I do get her tested she won't need to come off the road again for any major repairs.
Epic amount of rust for a car thats just ran out of ticket. Its all fixable with the sparkly stick though
Mate you should see the sills, you can literally put your hand in them, how it got a ticket ill never know, I was half tempted to take it to the same garage for a MOT just to give more time to save up the cash for the repairs but after seeing how bad it was I'm glad I didnt
Gone in all the usual places and then some! Mine is due another blast with the welder too lol
Is there no where you can get a panal from mate
I've gone through eBay, Renault, every local motor factors, over a dozen different parts supplies online and there zero chance of getting inner wings, to be fair I've sorted the passenger side ok, the drivers side is no worse so once I've done that its just the sills to do and get some new wings which Renault have in stock
It's gonna weigh some now Oli
It looks worse to me mate maybe just the photos oh and i take it by your reply theres defo no inner wings left then lol
youve ot some work ahead of you there mate, keep at it tho, youll have the welding perfected just as you finish haha, always the way. good luck dude
Looks bit crusty oily but nothing that you cant fix, so must of beern to 'stevie wonder's mot's last time lol Keep up the good work fella, ill wondering what the picture of the 9's sills will look like...
Given me something to think about taking the wings off shed 11 to check the state of my inner wings, after the mot! lol
BIG boost!! BIG BOOST IPSWICH!!
Another day gone and the inner wing drivers side is now nice and solid again, woulda gone faster if I didn't run out of gas mid weld
Well done mate looking good
Cheers bud, just the sills to go and she'll be nice and solid again, I figure while I'm at ill underseal the whole car to be on the safe side
good progress mate! the state of the car looks sh*t comparing to my 9
