Follow the train tracks to the tacho that's the plug. Get a new stat my first one opened up when in a pan of boiling water but not in kettle water. You need a bigger pump golf gti pump good for 18psi.
Sorted the cooling system, fitted a new stat and it still boiled out the header tank. So i took the top rad hose off and had now water there so i pumped it loads of times and now its sorted.
The next thing is that the idle is all over the shop what can i do to try and fix it?

They are not mounted yet but they are in the shuttle area and will be mounted on some black perspex painted black, thats the plan. I have the chrome shuttle covers aswell to cover it all up and going to stick the 'volvo 480 Turbo' badges on the covers.
Looks good matey. In regards to the idle you don't have a dump valve fitted or bleed valve basicly anything that means the engine can get un-metered air in?

How bad is the idle? Are you letting it get up to temp? Could just do with a good blast to clear everything out.
Just sounds if its missing, trys to cut out. im letting it get up to temp and when the fan comes on it nearly stalls itself.
What about when you turn lights on etc... Sounds like its a voltage drop prob then. Where is the maf placed?
When i tested my lights i dont think the voltage dropped, i will check when i fix it from my melted wire and smoke
My maf is just basicaly bolted on the turbo, does that make a difference?
Oh and ive tryed Marks way of the rev gauge and i didnt work ? Whats another way or the best way to do it?
As mark says get the maf away from the turbo as the spinning blades will screw the maf signal up.
ok found my idle prob on my charge cooler there are 2 bolt holes that go through into the cooler and i forgot to block one up so had a open hole thus bad idle ooopps.
just need to sort my melted wire prob now help.
Right, do i need a different starter motor for my car i just brought a new gtt starter but that sounds like its grinding is there a difference with the volvo starter?
Yeah you need a starter for the Volvo or a Clio. Do you have the 215mm flywheel? If so the starter needs more teeth. If you have the 200mm flywheel you may be able to use the gtt starter and it may need some adjustment but I don't know.
Sorted moved the pin to the other hole and stuck my volvo starter on that i had off the original engine

Hello, got my car up and running again and it Stinks of fuel, i have now fitted a AFR and on tickover its reading 22.9 or something! and when i rev it up abit it drops to 16.6 ish. Please help as i have a mot tomorrow
check the fuel pipe connections as mine worked loosei ended up getting proper fuel pipe clamps and not using jubilee
mine are all new and no leaks
