I have enquired about getting a few of these made up at a local engineering ferm. Copying one of Jims Pipes. Before i take this any further i would like to know how much interest there is in these as not economical to make up less than 5.
Estimated cost for 5 downpipes would be £90-£100 meterials plus £100-£110 labour.
Bit cheaper for more than 5, Please let me know if your interested before i take this any further.

Did you get the pics? I think a standard 3"pipe going from the exhaust wheel with another smaller 1-1.5" pipe grafted on runing along side the main pipe which eventually disolves into the 3" pipe? and yeah did yousee the drawings i sent ya?

Brizza just had look at your pics, i like the idear and see where your coming from. However this is a very custom job, and i think if i was to ask these guys to make one up they might not be to keen to just make a one off. You'd be looking at shelling out a huge wedge say £500-£600. If your still keen and not worried about the cost drop me a PM and i'll take your pics in for them to have a look.

Apparently the CGB retail price is £200. I haven't checked that.
Big Jim just told me that he's not accepting orders direct from customers now and has agreed CGB to be the sole distributor of these downpipes.
Ok thought he wasn't doing them any more, saves me time and effort then.
I'll have to get on to him about it, mights slightly diff as the coupling is under the car on mine

That's good news i've been after one of these for ages.
2" exducer and 1.25" dump pipe which would run into a 2.5 or 3 " system. Ive flanges and conical adaprtors to make any manifold and downpipe......... The wonders of working at a food grade tig company, any pipe any bend all in one place

Best to ask CGB if he already has some to sell. Maybe CGB will make a list and sell them in order.
Fitment of my big jim downpipe was poor before i modified it, hope there better now for the price. The flange that mates up with the exhaust housing was badly warped.
You thought it would be faced after welding, not surprised its warped from the heat welding it though

I know mines a one of Jim prototypes but MGC Engineering where i can get some more made did say they thought it was badly finished.

So would be the same price more or less.Obviously, Jim makes them cheaper. Can they be SOLD cheaper, inc VAT and POST is the question. Are you suggesting you'll do the members a favour and make and sell at no profit? Or at least, a small one? And deal direct with, and post to, each member?
Jim has the flanges made for him (laser cut?) so they are all the same and high quality. I can't comment on new ones vs. warped old ones as I've not looked for that on a recent one. Nor old ones. For the last few years he's owned a MUCH better tig that he used to use. If I recall correctly, £5000 or so it cost, and the welding it does / allows him to do, is better. I don't know if that affects warping or if he does flatten the end these days.
I wonder if CGB will see a downpipe ready for use before 2013 though, Jim isn't exactly quick these days is he....
Big jim won't be making rtoc any if he's sorting cgb out, that would pi55 cgb right off and he gets a lot of traffic through his site, I bet he sells them no problem.
I'm 90% sure the prices i have been quoted are including VAT will ring and double check. I'm only doing this as favor to fellow members, wasn't planning to make anyting on it myself. I have already got one of Jims pipes so wont be after one myself, unless they turn out heaps better.
Don't want to be doing this on a regular basis though, if i get enough people interested, we'll draw up a list. I'll then get a batch made up and posted out in one go to peeps on payment, might ask for a small deposit.

I strongly recommend asking for full payment up front. Or you'll be left with a few.
And I would expect you'd need to demonstrate the quality before anyone will pay up. As we did with the Raceland manifolds group buy.
The turn around might not be that quick as to quote Tom the owner of this engineering ferm " the wheels of engineering move very slowly". So time between payment and product arival could be a while.
Just to make one as demo would be very costly, so in a bit of dilemma. If i could get five people keen i could make a batch. I know its a lot of dolla when you haven't seen the finished product, i'm only trying to help people out. Not had that many people comit so far this might be a non starter.

Only seen pics of these 'big jims' but they dont look very good compared to a BMS, and for that money? ouch, im sure they can be made up cheaper and better quality, just need to find someone that can and will

The 5 bolt flange for the back of the turbo is £23, then it's a case of cutting a 90" pipe say 3" in half adding to it in the middle so it's a Bellymouth then warming and forming the bend to follow the contour of the 5 bolt flange
Tig the belly mouth to the flange then add the the down pipe part (swept 90" pipe)
Problem is the conical taper flex part on the bottom
But making say a BMS elbow to match up to a exsisting 2.5" down pipe wouldn't be costly or time consuming
I thing it's a case of buying a 2.5" 90" tight ss pipe (£19) opening and forming the end up
To fit the exhaust housing bolt pattern flange

Ive asked him and he isnt really interested, large outlay and he got messed around a lot. If the price went up he might be interested but what would people pay? 230 delivered?
The BMS ones are all hand formed in a number of peices over a dolly so they dont crack, Ben spent a long time R&D the design/materials as the heat stress soon cracks them if they aren't done right. All his laser cut flanges were proper stainless too and cut down the profit margin...
I'm definetley interested in one, no messing about. Will pay in advance if required
As long as the price is reasonable of course.
