going to give the car a wash and a quick polish n wax and take it for a good shakedown (hope weather is decent this weekend)

no inside pics yet as i want let it dry out properly first

todays plan of action is to change oil and filter plus fuel filter, fit oe headlights and alloy swirl pot then check co on fuelling and take it out for a good drive
random one showing mileage (full bottom end rebuild done at 110k)

looks like any plans for more engine work etc will be on hold for quite a while, as we was underneath my car yesterday and its a bit of a mess, drivers sill is shot inner/outter loads of places on floor pan are gone/going and passenger sill is starting to go.
couple this with needing new drivers door and bonnet plus bits of tatty bodywork all over the car, then it is looking like a full restoration will be taking place.
Best thing is that justin has said he will help to strip the car bare and store my parts for me plus i can do alot of the prep work. Might not please people on here but the color is going to be changed to mg trophy blue as my old car was this color and it looks fantastic if kept nice.
bit gutted that my plans have to be put on hold and this is going to cost a small fortune but hey thats life and theres no way im giving up on my car because of a bit of rust
Least you spotted the rust now before it gets too bad, best off doing that first as there's no point haivng a strong engine when the shell won't hold together
Good idea on colour though the tungy colour has never been my favourite, my old 5 was Porsche colbolt blue so not too far off the shade you going for now.
nail on the head there mark. the color is a cheeky way to pay homage to my old mg and it looks bloody good.
Would it be cheaper/better to reshell?
sounds like a mamouth road ahead, but will be worth it when you get it to how you want
wishing you all the best
Run it until season is over then winter restore??
i agree with brigsy, enjoy one more summer and the biggest national day yet. You'd be gutted if it wasnt ready for blyton (which chances are imo it wont be) its allways more work than it looks.
i think that is going to be the plan guys we will see how it pans out over the next couple.of months.
I can vouch for that colour, thats what I went for
looks well in the couple of pics iv just looked at
got quite a shopping list to start getting
inner sills
outter sills
drivers door
bonnet (already have in shed)
fuel filter bracket
campus rear windows
new copper brake lines
braided brake hoses (already have in shed)
new battery tray, clanp and bolt
there is a load more we will come across im sure
once again this club never ceases to amaze me, iv had 3 members come forward via om offering to help me with regards to parts at great prices, you all are a credit to the club and will be helping keep my beloved motor on the road. cant thank you enough
bloody hell iv just one to tax my car online and to my horror fount out my car doesnt have an mot, i was sure id had it done so i looked through my paperwork and it ran out nov 19th. so i now have a car with no tax n.mot which leaves me in a position as it will fail so it looks like the car comes off the road now until next year :-(
had a bit of a result and sorted a decent garage to store my car in, will be able to strip and do as much work possible there before the resto begins. All for the grand sum of £10 per week
Thats a bugger that you cant use the car for the summer then start the restoration, but good luck and keep putting progress reports/pics up.
it is mate but like i say was pointless going for mot as it would of failed, so took it off road early.
defo will keep the thread updated i was going to make a new thread but thought i may as well keep it to this thread
must say this clubs members just keep excelling themselves over and over again , had many people come forward with parts etc and as always mike at gt turbo spares more than helpful.
Now its gone a step further due to russ (steer from the rear) offering to help out with doing my sills and also any other bits of welding i need doing, plus hes going to paint my other bonnet and a new drivers door, all for an absolute bargain, so fingers crossed i might just make this years shows yet
if anyone is interested in buying this car then please feel free to drop me a pm and we can go from there, as said it needs new sills and bonnet (which i have here except drivers inner sill)
by yourself a welder and get cracking..
Come on m8, the blues are just setting in because you haven't driven it for a while.
Keep picturing the end goal and get cracking. Look at it this way, if you sell now you will be out of pocket. Get her welded up and drive her again and if you still feel the same sell then and you will get a proper price.
shame really, you have got it pushing some nice numbers aswell, but needs must dude
you will change your mind tho
Andy - don't get rid, store it or something. You will regret it. We need more andy's on here.
Sorry guys i appreciate what your saying but it just has to go
thought i would update this thread as you know i very nearly sold my car a bit ago but its still with me looking sorry for itself and ill be honest i only ever half heartedly put it for sale.
so onto the updates, iv been in touch with haz via pm regarding him doing the work required on my car and he has given me a detailed description of what he will do and is going take plenty of pics for his portfolio and me .
im going to strip as much of the car as i possibly can to help bring the work down for haz.
Just need to get a drivers outter door sill and drivers side door then ill have most the required bits, will get fuel pump bracket etc at national day from mike if hes there
iv also been speaking to markeymark (top fella) over on facebook regarding my clutch and he has pointed me in the right direction to get the 4 paddle friction plate which will handle the 220+lb/ft torque.
the yesmobile will live on in my hands and should look better than ever, who knows it might be ready for the rtoc rr day in sept
iv got my escort van 1.8td, dead quick honest, and its cost me more to maintain than my 5 has. spent near enough £600 on it this year.
Nice one andy glad u decided to stick with the old girl, looking forward to seeing it all done
cheers pal, ill look forward to actually driving it again
Thanks.jonny cant bloody wait mate all iv been driving is my van n the mrs seat ibiza
this is something i wont be able comment on until iv actually fitted it, maybe markeymark will see this and comment?
I have an ap 4 plate paddle it did judder slightly at first but it's fine now, I think having the flywheel re-faced will go a long way to making the clutch engagement smooth with a paddle plate.
cheers for that phil and yes that sounds like a top idea,
MarkyMark fitted a green box cover with 4 paddle to a freshly refaced flywheel on mine recently with extended clutch release arm. Its nicer than using a full green box without extended release arm on the legs but it does judder at biting point, it likes it on or off.
been a very long time since this thread was updated so here goes
firstly as you might see my car is currently being restored to a very high standard and whilst at it were replacing any old/worn parts eg rear shocks were standard items replaced with apex, all bushes are being replaced with polybushes, going to uprate the brake discs to ds2500.
then the quest for more power begins, my turbo is being sent to my mate to get a billet comp wheel fitted, fuelling will be as close to bang on as we can get it then ill be installing the nodiz pro ignition unit and getting that mapped up at wgt. really looking forward to the outcome of the few additions and hoping to see another 10-20bhp if possible with quite a bit more torque especially in the low/mid revs.
am hoping the resto is finished before aprils rr day im not too fussed if the nodiz aint fitted by then as its not massively important and can be fitted/mapped anytime. will be interesting to see what improvements its made since adding 2.5" bore turbo back system, bjr downpipe and leaning the fuelling out a bit (11.4afr full boost, was 10.4afr last dyno run)
be some increase in HP with that fuel leaned out a bit mate
Good to see you back on here
It defo felt alot more lively on the drive back from longlife exhausts pal.
i forgot to add i have removed the raceland exhaust manifold and put the oe one back on, never liked the tubular and tbh all i think it did was make the car sound crap.
turbo now boxed up to be sent to my mate to get billet comp wheel fitted, and a general check over before refitting
