well done, great project read
well done, great project read
Sounds good mate. Have you got any plans for the engine while it's out? Tell me about it, there's so much I want but can't afford aswell! Yeh self taught on motorbikes then progressed onto cars, now working as a mechanic for VW
Have you got a rust patch on both front footwells?
I only had rust on o/s footwell but sills both side i got a t2/t25 turbo i want to cam it and change exhaust manifold nothing too mad what bout u
What cam you planning to get? Think a 270 would run well with a t2/25 depending on boost level. I went for a full t25 with a 285 cam running @ 20psi (when it's back in).
I've got a long spec list, have a look on my profile. What's left is pretty much bodywork, planning on fitting new sills next month.
Have you done all the work yourself?
I thought a 270
i have just stripped the engine down and the piston and liners are in a bad way 2 have scored the liners quite bad yea i do the work meself i am a truck mechanic. i hated doin the sills its so boring but its nice when you know you havent got any rot left to do are you guna tackle the sills yourself
ah bad stuff mate, looks like your gona have to pay abit more money into it.
Yeh I was quite relieved after doing the footwell just knowing theres less rot to worry about. Nah Im not the greatest at bodywork so gona shell out for my mate to do the sills as hes done a few sets before. How long did they take you?
It took me a few weeks cos i could only do an hour here and there but i reckon u could do a side a day if it went well i had to make new inner sills aswell
so i have spent some time stripping my engine down today so now got a big list of things to get
Right so not alot has happend recently because i have been saveing up. so today i sprayed my engine bay the orignal tungsten colour i am really pleased how it came out i have also got my engine parts back and will be updateing shortley on how i get on putting all back together if i can reamember lol
so today i made a start on painting the engine and other little bits and getting everything ready to put together so the spec is piper 270 cam, a t2/25 turbo, big valve head ported and polished, uprated headgasket and bolts, piper valve springs, uprated clutch, lightend and balanced flywheel ,alloy rad ,alloy intercooler ,uprated starter moter all engine gaskets replaced, reconed oil pump new pistons liners ,machined crank all shells, and much more it has takein me ages to save up lol
Looking good!!
Great job, Love the updates
Thankyou i spent along time welding so didnt have much to show really but the only way to be sure you dont have any rot is to take all the kit off and start again but very boring lol
Nice work
so i have done a little bit more today spent more time trying to reamember where i had put things lol but i am haveing trouble reamembering when i took oil sandwhich plate off did the fitting go in the block then sandwhich plate was there a running nut that holds the sandwhich plate or is it held tight to block by oil filter? would be grateful for any help
What you've got there looks ok. The sandwich plate is "Sandwiched" between the filter & the block but the threaded bolt thing needs to be tightened up enough so when you remove the filter you're not loosening the sandwich from the block.
Nice work BTW!! I love a clean engine!!
so got gearbox and engine together and tidied up a few things then i realised i had forget to buy a turbo to manifold gasket and both rubber 45 degree pipes on turbo return to sump are knakerd so guna have to order them but all in all good progress
so managed to put engine back in today, my full set of samcos should be here next week i have been waiting 6 weeks for them, and then my new T25 turbo should be here nxt week aswell, i cant wait i am just trying to run the wireing loom in tidy but which ever way i put it, it still looks messy its driveing me mad
Looking great mate. Nice work.
Cheers mate
great stuff, you've turned yours around pretty fecking quick... i planned on taking my dash out about the time you started this and i still haven't done it..
oh well
nice work matey, good to see a proper job
similar boat myself but far too lazy to be painting engine bay etc this time around, maybe next time I blow it up!
Lol yea it is abit of a pain painting the engine bay. I had never done any spraying before, I just went to a paint suppliers told them what i was doing and got the paint matched i think it cost 100 includeing gun and about 3 hours prep then its done give it a go or just wait for next blow up lol.
half my engines back in, defo be next time now! lol!
Looking good fella
so dont quite abit today, had problems with new intercooler wouldnt fit so had to move bracket back but looks ok for now, still waiting on pipes so i can do breather system, and gota fit anti perc fan, and fit new turbo when it arrives and, gota work out what air filter to fit as mine came with nothing at all, anyone got any pictures of their setup or any advise on what to get?
So done a fair bit today as the weathers good, i have changed 2 steering rack boots and track rod ends, put the anti perc fan back in, and started doing the breather system mods so its starting to look like a car again and then did some touchin up of paint work underneath.
so after haveing found out i had the wrong gearbox in my car which i had fitted back in all painted, i had to pull it out and replace with a gt turbo gearbox but its done now, so i can start putting it back together i have finshed tighting gearbox and fitted my new T25 turbo. but i have come to put speedo sensor in gearbox, and it just sits loose in the hole is there ment to be a sleeve that sits in the hole to grip the sensor? any help would be appreciated
there should be a little seal on the sensor and a clip bolted on the gearbox which holds the sensor in place
Cheers mate i thought i was goin mad lol
Coming along nicely m8! That's a pain with the gearbox, still at least it is right now!
so been trying to sort out hoses i got a full set of samco hoses for it now waited ages for them to come they turn up and i forgot to get juiblee clips lol oh well
Great job ,where did you get hoses from ? Price for kit ? Thanks matt
this afternoon i have put the rest of the hoses on and it wont be long until i am ready to start engine the only problem i have is the little degassing pot i cant see where the bracket that holds it is ment to bolt to
The bracket bolts onto the lower mounting bolt of the headlight mate
How you getting on mate?
Yea good mate sorry didnt reply sooner i am in cyprus i fly back tomoz so got rest of the week to crack on i have so many new bits waiting to go on and i gota get it running i like the speedlines you got but really like the wolfrace wheels your changeing them because u want to not because you feel like you need to comform to the norm lol
so today i have been quiet busy i have just got back off holiday so havent done much lately. so i was determind to get something done. so i painted under the rear wheel archs replaced the rear discs with new ebc ones then i replaced the rear flexi brake hoses with goodridge stainless steel ones also had to replace a length of copper hose. fitted new apex rear shocks. and started painting all of the floor pans and boot floor. also while i waited for the paint to dry i fitted my new afr gauge so tommorow i am going to get some petrol and try starting it so hopefully it will be running tommorow hopefully lol
Clean looking arches mate
One thing tho, isn't that shock on upside down?
Should look like the pic below.
