    Problems

OK, since my F7P started & revved up a little high, (deffo no more than 4 or 5k & deffo didn't hit the limiter, prob started for 3 or 4 secs max) it won't start.
It's got fuel, it's got spark as I've checked this numerous times, checked leads & plugs, they all spark, swapped leads got a backfire a couple of times but it's deffo not catching.
Today I went over to try again thinking it could have been flooded, no such luck so I did a compression test..................

    1. hardly registered
    2. 45 psi
    3. 45 psi
    4. 10 if I was lucky

Now I am assuming that this probably means I've slipped the cambelt as those are woeful even for a block that the rings haven't bedded in on
I have had the pistons skimmed by 1.9mm so I'm hoping the valves should be clear & it's just a case of re-timing the belt, I wasn't able to check as my torx bits were at home so couldn't get the cover off.
I can't see any other reason why it won't start now either, it all seems to point to cam timing ?? ?

    Re: Problems

    Feck me Steve,

Those results are low although I am not sure what unbedded rings comp test results should be about never tested unbedded ring's. Steve did you do the comp tests with throttle open?

I would be checking that belt as I am with you in thinking it may have jumped a tooth or 2 thus the starting problems, as you say it sparks, you have fuel and she back fires when HT leads on wrong way which to me makes me think timing.

Maybe the belt was just a little to slack and that inital quick and high rev when you started it without TB just caused it to jump (I know how quick it shoots up with out the TB). Check that belt is timed up still matey as that could also explain the low comp results.

I very much hope the valves have not hit the pistons unless the belt jumped a few more teeth and caused valves to bend hence 0psi comp results

I would be checking next what the timing is like on the belt and pullies marking's.

    Re: Problems

Cam timing is spot on, actually I forgot to do the WOT when doing the comp test as I was so stressed
Can't think what could be wrong now.
    Car is being broken.

Steve you can't break the car matey all that time and effort you have ploughed into it. It is really puzzling with the timing being fine but the comp tests being so low, could be down to not having WOT and new unbedded rings in place.

Are you at car now?? I can pop over for an hour straight after work

Check the fuel injection comp relay mate, that could be playing silly buggers mate.

also make sure the injectors are firing. my connection from loom to injector harness had slipped a pin and the injectors wernt firing but was getting fuel to the rail.

Injectors are firing ok, I had the rail out & checked, plus plugs were soaked.
Had a spark as took asll leads out
    cam timing is ok
May be worth looking at the inj latch relay as Mark says but the shell may be going, poss swap for a clio 16v shell if we both agree.

Yes mate, it's going to end up with me being divorced at this rate.
Poss swapping shells for a ph 1 valver mate if it's what I want & vice versa.

It is prob something stupid but as we've said before that shell is jinxed, nothing goes right in that car.
You don't want a red 5 with working 16v in it do you.

    Re: Problems

Found this on the valver site, looks like it could be my problem... I hope.

"it's not unheard of for hydraulic lifters to over inflate or get air trapped in them, normally on a fresh rebuild, causing valves to not close fully. I doubt those lifters are brand new, but more likely opened and cleaned. Probably full of air."

What's the remedy for sorting that?

set fire to it thus burning away the air

I assume stripping the cams away, pulling the followers out & filling with oil
    although \/

    Re: Problems

Pretty sure filling the lifters with compressable air is not going to cause a problem, also pretty sure a lifter at its most full couldnt cause a valve to bend. i think thats people making up an excuse for a badly timed engine.....

    Re: Problems

OK, whipped the head off yesterday, dropped a little oil in the bores & turned it over once & left the oil round the rings, it didn't appear to be seeping away, well certainly no very fast if it was so I think it could be the lifters. I know the cam timing was ok as I checked it 4 times before I dropped the lump in & then once again before I pulled the head off.

I have another head I am going to put on & see what happens from there...

    Re: Problems

It's either going to be the fecking lifters having air in them matey, although when you took the head of yesterday the valves were closed so they are not being kept open or it is a warped head / bad ceiling gasket. Bottom end did look good.

Yeah but I had removed the inlet cam matey

I'll get onto K-tec for a gasket later in the week.
