    White temperamental gtt

Right Thought id better start documenting a bit of my struggle with my gtt.
It has over the past year been the most annoying car i have ever owned.
Im not gona go into to much detail but over the year i have had:

    3 headgasket changes
    a failed turbo
    a cracked oil sandwich plate
    Found a cracked liner
    found melted pistons
    Changed blocks

Loads more stuff too, but im just focusing from now on.
One good thing in this time is ive enjoyed learning, and enjoy getting stuck in

Right car went in for mot just before christmas and failed on corrosion of sills
Managed to get new sills chopped in under the bodyskirt rivets, so no painting was needed.

These are new inner and outer sills

One thing i wasnt happy with was the price
Looks to be a good job though.

Managed to paint the areas of the wings front and back behind the bodykit with por15 chasis paint. Wasn't the best idea to do it in this weather, but it was now or never.

Looks like the back arches have been cut at some point for larger wheels

I had problems with the body kit arches. The thread had gone in them and left the weird bodykit screw in the wings.Hours later i got out all 14 fixings with a dremel tool.
I decided to modify the arch fixings so this is what i came up with.

m5 plastic threaded bar cut down to 25mm

This was then bonded into the old hole with chemical metal

Job done, These can now be taken off, and put on the car realy easily.

Used the same 40mm m5 threaded bar with a 25mm washer spacer for were the rivets go on the sideskirts and on the back arch behind the light.

    Bodykit back on

Just been driving it for the last few days with no reported problems.

Loads more stuff to do but i'm just enjoying, driving it like a granny for now.

thought it was the car, dont want to scare you but i remember that oliver telling me he had done about 3 or 4 headgasket changes before he sold it you, might just be one of them cars, but if you have changed the block you might be ok now, just letting you know, because i bought a block off him and he was telling me all about the trouble he had

After seeing some of his workmanship, I'm not surprised it didn't work properly.
rebuilding a carb on Monday so I'll take that up next week to the car and see how it goes.

Thanks Wallace. The nylon thread and butterfly nuts worked a treat. The arches can be undone so quick and easy now. I'm definatley on the home straight with this car now.

    good read mate..

Im loving the nylon wingnuts.. where can i order me self a set..

I have often thought about bonding some bolts etc in , however i thing no matter what you do, after a few years of driving the corsion will make the bolts tight and split again, just like the originals.

with the nylon , corrosion wont be a problem.. well done

hi damian this was the seller I bought my stuff from. I'm sure you could find them cheaper. Also bought a pack of extra plastic washers and 15mm washers for the back of the sill holes.

Yeah, if you look in his shop, I used the 15mm washer for behind the sills, and where the back arches are normaly riveted under the light .Also bought an extra pack of 50 plastic washers so I could have one on each side of the arches. Think I bought 4 packs of the wingnut and m5 bar, so had 40, just to make sure.

    update with no pics

Rebuilt a different carb, that seems to have sorted out the problem. Starts first time when cold, but it struggles if you leave it an hour or so and come back to it, so must be evapourating in the carb bowl. Changed passenger side bottom balljoint, so it doesn't pulll to the left anymore. Have a big jim racing down pipe that i tried to fit, but wouldn't mate up to my magnex system. This ment i couldn't fit my wideband either, , oh well , ill just keep driving it and enjoying it then . Started to give it a bit of welly, they are very fun cars.

    update
No pics at the moment but ive got a fair few miles under my belt without a hitch, been using it everyday for the last month and a half.

Loads of bits to do so pulled it off the road last weekend, and decided to start on the matrix.
Went down the route of splitting the dash so i didn't disturb most of the wiring.
Wasn't as bad as i thought although theres not much room for a 6ft 3inch fat lad to maneuver.

Whilst i was doing that i noticed the carpet was wet under the passenger seat so wiped out that to find all the sound deadening in both foot wells and behind the dash sodden.
Now the car hasn't had any heat in it for 2 years at least but it must be coming from the bulkhead or bottom of windscreen?
Also have a boost gauge that needs that i have disturbed the live too and touched something on the back of the gauge, possibly popping a fuse as the doors don't buzz when left open and left hand side sidelights don't work, anyone know which fuse i sound be looking at?

Does anyone have any spare seat bolts as the torx ones i have look fairly chewed up, preferably some with a normal hexagonal head.

After the relief of getting the matrix out, i suddenly remembered i had forgotten to bring my new matrix, so thats how i left it.

The filter will be moved in time dude, this is only running at 0.6 bar and runs a dream as it is.
Done about a 1000 miles on the new engine and feels
i have decided as i am now emotionally attached to the c1j that it is staying.
It will be running at 1 bar in the future and that is how it will be staying performance wise.
Which means that a new project will be undertaken as soon as i can find the right campus.

    Re: White temperamental gtt

Is it just me but when it comes to working on my cars i always seem to put it off, while i'll happily spend days working on other peoples cars. Well my gtt has not been right since national day and have done at least 1000 miles with fueling issues. Finaly did a bit a work on it today, its was realy looking sorry for its self in the engine bay. Water was low, due to **** bleed nipples on chinese silicone hoses, it managed to drip into the spark plug holes and start eroding the spark plugs! Starter motor sounds like its on its way out, and found my boost leak and fueling probs.

Im such a d1ck ive should of given it tlc months and months ago

Also rocker seal or rocker cover is fecked as oil is dripping everywhere even into the dizzy shaft, were the rotor arm locates! The dizzy cap was also only held on by 1 bolt! Despite all this it still managed to start first time, early every morning and take me to and from work with no hiccups. Starting to grow fond of this c1j. My spark plugs weren't looking too clever though.
