Re: The New Backyard D16 Project

Well stripped the honda today, it looks like the head has lifted... What you say????? yes it looks like the head has lifted!!!... you can see where the gas has been blowing right across the head in all directions to the edge... Seems like that bull**** term ive heard all my life from tuners is true! when i thought it was an excuse for a head gasket to go as you cant tune a car!!!..

There is nothing at all on the map/logs to indicate anything odd... AFR`s good, our total ign was low anyway.. Seems like at 35+ psi ARP head bolts may be needed...

You could yes if your prepered to re drill... its easier to go arp.. Peeps are trapping over 150mph running over 45psi with this size bolt on the D motor.. no point re inventing the wheel if you get me mate... on the b18 ill go direct to studs and arps etc as i do intended to run that amount of boost in time..

Well looks like Speedfactory have been out at it again with there B18 outlaw car (these are the same guys that built the d16 i posted up earlier in thread)... Seems like this b18 is one of the more basic builds out the outlaw group, still running the hondata s300 piggy back, oh and yet another precision 72 billet unit pulling the numbers in....

is weight making much difference at those terminals? You must need something like 400hp just to drive at 179mph

im sure you know if it does or not

i would of thought so, top speed no, but how quickly it will reach that speed i think weight plays a big part on. i think the weight plays a bigger part in the 1st 1/8th mile than the 2nd 1/8th of the track though, hence the flyweight n/a cars are very good upto the 1/8th, but make no mph ..

it's going to be close to that

    Think about this.

Assume a GTT weighs 2Kg and has 200hp, it has enough power to push through the air a sniff over 140mph, but how fast would it go before it didn't have enough traction to drive through the air? (assume no lift).

Re: The New Backyard D16 Project

im sure there is a formula to calculate tractive effort vs drag...

and with a full size car weighing 2kg, even with 200hp, i bet it couldnt top 40mph
    without breaking traction.

but my argument would be that a lightweight car is not slower through the traps becasuse its broke traction, after all, there not spinning through the traps.

as for breaking traction in the lower gears, i thought you may be have a point, and maybe the heavier car would make better 1/8th times, but it never happens in reality, and i think thats because its breaking traction due to high G force, and not drag as it would at high speed

not with the billet compressor ron, im sure there are 72mm inducer units about on ebay, but weve broke a few ebay turbos now, and with us needing a degree of reliability in the series, we cant risk the ebay turbos really, there too hit and miss, the last one we had literally lasted 1 event

yes andy, thats probably what we are going with. s372, journal. cheap units, reasonable quality, and are rebuildable, dont seem to be as good at high pressure ratios as these new fangled billet compressors which are doing the rounds now, but still have made some big numbers/traps on honda motors

yeah ive seen some dynos from the mitsi 4g63 boys making big numbers on those blowers, but they run really crazy boost to do it.

the 6767 is a possable (t4 only), we think we will go t4 divided flange on the new motor, most of the big stuff (72mm+) is t4, and we cant see ever dropping turbo size.

I know its pretty bollocks tbh, having to go on other peoples experiences, lucky **** loads of people with hondas use them. Even the actual wheel sizes are hard enough to find.

I remember trying to find data on the 6767 billet, I was wasting my time, nothing but no-nothing yanks giving their 2p a couple of worth while looking opinions amongst the crap though.

I just looked up that borg warner compressor rob's talking about, that looks tasty.

the 6767 is the t4 version i think?

    the 6765 comes in t3.

maybe the lack of maps is something to do with garrett, as precision only modify the turbos, they are actually garrett items (chra at least), marketing reasons maybe

From what I have read recently precision dont have anything to do with garrett anymore, but maybe like Scoff said earlier the interweb is a minefield
