Horrific M3 crash at the `Ring` dont try this at home kids!!!

Quote:The M3 was driven by an experienced driver. The cause of this accident was due to traffic. The M3 entered a blind curve where it hit a Mini Cooper driving a lower pace. After the impact the M3 got fire. In the end the vehicle was completely a total loss. The driver survived due to the build-in roll cage.

Kind of puts me off going now!!

THIS is why I'm shocked when I see people driving round the ring with no helmet on Some of the members do it and I think you're all plain nuts

One of the biggest Ive seen. Ouch. Doubt thats a standard 6 point cage either.

I rekon doing that with a 6 point cage, and an older model car could look ugly.

Gravel trap and some run-off for me please!

Seeing those pics i'm glad the driver is out and alive, but this would not stop me from driving IMO THE best track in the world

Don't let it put you off, just make sure your car is well and truly up to the task of completing the 14 mile circuit at speed, it's a true test. I'm going out there spring 2010

    Give this track RESPECT

Re: Horrific M3 crash at the `Ring` dont try this at home kids!!!

Saw this on one of the bimmer forums. It was at one of those track days at the ring, not the usual public day, so the main straight was open! It happened at the blind left hand crest, not far from where you usually come onto the track at the barrier.

Guess he was doing a nice 170ish down the straight seeing as a de-restricted evo should do 165+. Take a look at this clip of someone turning up at the crash site just after...:

    And a before crash pic

I believe he just broke an arm! Lucky boy!

Re: Horrific M3 crash at the `Ring` dont try this at home kids!!!

    Thats just crazy. NO FLAGS?
Looks like a death trap from that video. Looooong straight then a blind corner, and a recovery truck on track???

I havent got much desire to go.
Spoke to a Canadian chap recently, his nearest race circuit out there was 1000 miles away! He came over here to do a track day at brands...

I think we are pretty lucky in the UK.

Good job he had a window net I rekon.
I dont think i would race without one.
We have all seen this one:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qj2kj...eature=related

His arm is actually hanging out of the car and the only thing touching the floor at one point. Thats one broken arm.
Best to mount it on the roll cage and not the door!

Re: Horrific M3 crash at the `Ring` dont try this at home kids!!!

m3 is a mess, think he'd mind me taking the engine?

glad to see the guys alright though, i would never race on a track without a cage, or race anywhere without one tbh.... bolt ons do even the most serious of jobs despite theire bad feedback compared to weld in's.... i'd rather have a bolt in than nothing tbh if it came down to it!

clio crash = epic failure, can picture his face and the co driver shouting "YOU IDIOT!" in del boy style

    That yellow Clio

The 'ring is an amazing place, half the thrill is the danger when you're out there. You can come round a bend and be met by anything and it's happened to me. I was was met by oil, dirt, a bike off on the left, a car and recovery truck on the right and cones taking half the track away. Fortunately I had time to react but I did have a moment. Helmets and cages all the way!!

Re: Horrific M3 crash at the `Ring` dont try this at home kids!!!

as peeps say, the biggest issue there is the speed difference between cars... I was concentrating more on my mirrors sometimes than the track itself....the main worry though was the bikers - they were nuts!! But overall, what a buzz.... would recommend it, even if you only do it once!!
