no Bob is the owner of CGB. Bought some bits off him a few years back before he started CGB. Nice guy, but Ive not had any bad dealings with him yet so only speak for myself. Just got back into 5s so been off the scene for 5 years

It's a well documented fact on here what Bob/CGB is like. For every one person who's had no problems with him, there'll be 20 who have.

The bad vibe certainly outweighs the good with him, so you pays ya money & takes ya chances.

Thats a shame, especially considering he used to be one of us!

I imagine it could only benefit his business to have a good relationship with this club!

I totally agree Allan but he was quite rude about it as if I was seriously bothering him, charming.

As Mike said though, www.gt-turbo-spares.co.uk DO offer us a nice discount (check the contacts section)

Same stuff, cheaper prices...plus a discount

Well I think I'll await delivery of my piston rings and see what happens. I only live 5 mins away from where ian nixon worked before he went bump. A chap I know used to work for him and he used to have a red 5. Nixon was a bit expensive but he did the job right and always had the bits you needed urgently!

I remember when bob was on the farm just outside donnington, used to get my bits of him when he had that mad silver 5 with rollerbearing turbo!

    ANYWAY!

Enough reminiscing....this thread is about him doing someone a mischief.

The reason for that is a lot of people on here slated him a while back (and rightly so in some cases) when they had bad dealings/service with him.

I've dealt with him a few times and he's been very good.

[quote=LampsR5;115582]there is way too much for me to write, but ive been going to cgb since i first owned my 5 and to say ive spent thousands is an understatement at cgb motorsport.

but whats really pushed me over the edge is ive contacted bob twice regarding a gearbox,

ive olny had problems with cgb when perchasing GEARBOX's i bought 1 and he sent to me rolling around in back of couriers van, so selector was fooked, complained and got another and same again. when i told him to pack it right i finally got 1 that worked but it was still a ****ter!

I know somebody who got a dodgy gearbox from bob, kept jumping out of 2nd gear from him, spoke to him, he just sent another one with no questions.

Another one who has taken the niche market of 5s for granted!! Bought up as many turbos as he could and basically pushed everyone who used to deal in the bits out of the market! Used to buy a car for a few hundred and keep bits i needed then sold bits to help other members out. All gone out of the window now! Boycott these people and vote with your wallets. Nocturnal group used to have a lot of bits. Use the wanted section as a first port of call. If you have an unwanted project post it on here first, or let me know so i can let others who im in touch with know whats about. If i could still get the cars at a good price id be a happy person!

    Re: CGB motorsport

sorry but is this not the point of CGB with 5's, as is PCS with mike, GT Turbo spares/ Prima etc etc? theyre a business and they have to make money by breaking renault 5's and selling spares.... if they are a breakers and specialist in them, then why complain?

all this vote with your wallet crap, people are going to run out of parts eventually including renault and it'll be these lads left who will have all the good bits and can charge what they want within reason.

i broke citroen ax's for autograss lads and got the same crap up here for breaking up GT's and GTi's, but i was making money, im now doing the same with rs turbo's, and its superb business to be in is breaking cars, always a need for 2nd hand spares!

just look at mk1 escort parts and you'll see how 5 breakers will go shortly.

by christ some of them have shot up stupid amounts, but the people who broke them over the years are now making a fortune, they work the same way as what any salvage yard or breakers would anywhere in the uk.

break 1 car and keep maybe 10-15 maybe more alive from their parts.... not rocket science is it?

exactly mate, its getting to the point nowadays though that i can see, that 5's are becoming more in price complete than what they are in bits unless you pick up a heavily modified one for peanuts and break it apart.

i cant find one anywhere for cheap up here for parts for any of my cars, so im forced to buy spares on a need basis, where as with my fords, i have a complete convertable lying around with a turbo engine sat in it, and a s2 rs sitting there so that the convertable gives up its panels for my cab, and the engine for my RS. breaking cars isnt nice to some, but its a necessary evil most of the time

Overpriced, over rated, and customer relations RUBBISH!!!

must have sent them 5 e-mails asking for details on things lucky if you get a reply!!!

However they do stock most items so that is a plus, but you better be ready to pay top dollar for it!!! They must be doing well though as their ebay feedback is good, so best just to deal with them on there i recon!

Saw Bob the weekend and he totally sorted out me and my mate (benefit of living 15miles away and not having to pay his postage costs). I think he comes across on the phone a bit half arsed, but to be honest its probably just his midlands accent and I have one of them too.

If you go over to see him, or Joe (who does all his graft), they are both very helpful and honest.

Had several dealings with them and can't fault them. I even spoke to him about this thread for his opinions. He explained he was on a loosing battle. He cant please everyone... i wont go into details but he was very honest. i just cant beleive 60% of his business is abroad.

We don't know how good we have it with our spares availability and being able to help each other out.

i think its more the case if he is postting the item then he sends crap out to people that have paid top money for the item then its a great big let down when you get it the to your door

imo i think he is pretty good when i have needed parts and if i can get the chance to get up there then its all good cause you can get what you want straight away and no messing.sayin that i havent been up there for a while though.and on the other hand i have ordered parts as well off the net and the responce has been pretty quick.the thing is what i like though is that if you need any think from a door speaker covers to a set of door his has the lot and tbh if renault is no help to me he is the next best thing.sayin that i did get my car off him as well i was pleased and happy with it.at the time when i got the car 3yrs ago with 69k on the clock and just over the 2k mark i thought it got a good deal and vey clean standard example as well which is what i wanted

    Re: CGB motorsport

I have spent £1000's at CGB along with friends and not once have i had a problem.

most of the parts he sells are second hand obviously! still a lot cheaper than Renault...
The 2 guys that work for them are not Polish they are Portugese and are really good lads always willing to help.

Being in business is all about £ theres so many outgoings especially when you get tax officers querying pathetic expenses. its a stressfull game and you need to make it work to maintain it,

im sure CGB could find easier ways to make more money than breaking 5's up all day. Its doing us all a favour as parts are readily available at reasonable prices compared to some of the other performance cars a clutch for an evo is nearly £1000, so in comparrison 5 bits are still cheap.

I think its a god send having CGB to help when things go tits up, personally i couldnt rely on hunting parts down from other people all the time, e bay takes forever and you have gotta be pretty quick on here so you dont miss out on the bargains.

look at it from outside the box
