Idiots who want to race you!

I've recently been using my 5 most weekends & if I have the time & its dry, I've been going out for the odd drive in the evening. I've been tinkering with airfilter setups, boost levels & suspension settings so usually I go out for a test or just for the sake of it now thats it's back on the road. The thing is, everytime I go out I get spotty faced young idiots in tatty old Nova's, Escorts, Uno's & the like, going out of their way to chase after me, sit mm from my bumper & trying to goad me into racing them. Last night I went out to fil up with petrol, I use Tesco 99 & the nearest one is 10miles away in either direction, so Colchester or Clacton. I chose Clacton. I filled up, pottered out of the station & went up to the exit rounabout to head of home. A couple of said spotty's then appeared behind me in an Uno Turbo. I pulled off round the roundabout & take the exit. As I accelated from the exit in second, not very hard I might add, I change to third & glance in my mirror to see (& hear I might add!) the Uno almost impaling itself into the back off my car . How he missed me I'll never no. It then came past me with the passenger hanging out of the wndow making, shall we say, hand gestures lol. They then overtook the lorry that was in front of me & dissapeared down the bypass in a cloud of black smoke lol. I then overtook the lorry , was abit anoyed tbh, then thought, face...bothered....carried on my merry way. As I came to the roundabout at the end of the bypass, I saw them going all the way round to go back the way they came! So they actually went out of ther way to almost crash into my car

When I'm out in my impreza I get the odd idiot wanting to mount me from behind but in truth it's generally VAG oilburners that seem to think they are on a race track My impreza is a standard Hawkeye WRX SL, so no big rear wing, or chavtastic rally wanabee graphics & a subtle, non load Prodrive exhaust, so still got the burble, but not very loud at all tbh. I really like driving it & anoying little chav to$$ers leave me alone.

My five imo, looks really nice & is in great condition, but it could be said that with big shiny wheels, a loud large exhaust & pretty low suspension setup it does look abit, shall we say.....ahem.....chav, as my mates say.

If I put the std wheels, suspension exhaust on, so it looks & sounds std do you reckon I'll get less agro?

Personally I don't think it will make a blind bit of differance. The fact thats it's a 5GTT means it will still attract the sort of unwanted attention that I really can't be arsed wth these days as I've more that grown out of those times . In truth, I think the writings on the wall. Sad, yes, but change is good.....the classifieds are beconing soon for my5 me thinks.lol

Honestly, I don't think it matters how it looks you're still going to get little bellends trying to race. When I was younger I use to oblige and drive like a nob. Now, I'm (almost) sensible, most of the time I won't even bother (petrol costs too much anyway! lol)

But if one of them does get my goat ... I like to get in front of them and then drive really slowly

I fooking HATE with a passion people sitting on my bumper, sometimes I just put my foot down never to see them again, somtimes I just slow down to pee them off more and stick at the speed limit, other times I slowright down and as they overtake I speed up and generally inform them how much they have annoyed me lol. Must get some help with that one

Yes I'm getting, shall we say, more mature, so I guess with age my tolerance to idiots on the road has diminished, but also with age my general tolerance to idiots has increased, so, yes they pi$$ me off more, but actully bother me less if you get my meaning. The main problem is what I'd replace my 5 with. Clio williams will draw the same idiots so I'll have to think about it.

I think alot of it depends on the area you're in. I've had my GTT nearly 10 years now and I can honesty say I can't recall any time when someone has tried to race me.

it doesn't matter what car I take out, the 5 or the Sport KA, I always get people sitting up my bum. I find vans to be the worst. Especially on the motorway, every month on the way to Ace Cafe we'll pass a van who then has to speed up and overtake just to 'do us'
And don't get me started on the 'bad manz' in the local industrial estate

People always do this to me, they're cars don't even have to be "performance" cars. They can be big audi tdi cars or the like and they will just sit there on my bumper and I don't know whether they are doing it with intention of pissing me off to race or just being general dickheads.

If there is a performance car behind me being a dickhead, most of the time i know if i put my foot down I won't see them again...so thats what I do lol and then they either give me the thumbs up after I have slowed down or they just don't do it again after realising they are turnips. Bit of r5 powaaa never hurt anyone

Damn it really really pisses me off to the limit ! They are all like that round here. Drive up each others ass. I have already had my car stolen from me once and i am VERY conscious of other people being near it.

Really does depend on your location i think. You could be in an F40 and people would still give you a go just to say they did.

I have a new rear bumper,rear arches,underlight trims,complete boot etc all sprayed up waiting.

One day when someone really does get as close as they did the other nite, i mean super stupidly dangerously close, i think i am just gonna slam my brakes on deliberately, then get out and beat the occupants and car to death with my autolock .

I don't understand why you wouldn't get those same cars wanting to race you when you're in your Impreza? Everyone wanted to race me when I used to own a Supra, even the more classy supercars.

Older Impreza's are, imo, getting a worse rep for being 'boy racer' than what the 5 is regarded these days.

i dont really get it round where i live but when i do it seem's to saxo's and i just let them get about half way along the side of my car and then i start to speed up just enuf to let them know my car is faster then there's and if im in a nice mood i might slow down and let them past but most of the time i just floor it and leave em but thats just me

I just slow down abit till they get fed up and pass me, then I'll speed up (to the limit and no higher officer) and pull alongside them, pop a flame out the sidey, prefurable setting fire to all the fibreglass that makes up thier bodykits and feck off into the distance and laugh as they try to keep up but fail

its hard not to get egged on, but i always try to make it as embarrasing as poss for the person trying it on..

i usually wait for them to start to overtake, usually pulling out and once they are level i just accelerate leaving them stuck in no mans land.

the other is to drive really really slowly in the 30 zones where they can't pass, then as soon as you his NSL dissapear off, they'll catch you up by the next 30 zone and the game can carry on

the other one is same as method one, but blow a kiss at their girlfriend in the passenger seat when they are alongside, just before you go

So why not get on, do your our thing, whatever it might be, Stop worring about others when your out driving just do your own thing what ever it maybe and enjoy.

Go out make a difference to somthing that really matters like to educate people , raise peoples awareness to FACTS about the life we live, and the world we live in.
