    My engine bay...

    Sorry for all the questions

I took some pics of my engine bay the other day as a member pm'd me saying my vaccum pipes arnt setup properly and that my carb wont fuel properly on boost ...i pm'd the user back with pictures but im guessing he's busy. I put up a post before about the juddering/hessitance when off boost driving normally ..the car judders a fair bit.

Im running standard boost and as far is i know standard jets on the carb ..also running a forge FMIC.

    here are the pics -

I know most of you will be saying "ARGH...WHAT A MESSY BAY!" its all i can work with at the moment ..as id need to see some tidy bays to get some ideas

    Re: Does this look ok?

dont worry it doesnt ..i made sure there was plenty of space from them and the ht leads ..so i dont get an arc(sp). My main concern is ...are the pipes all in the right places? ...i dont wanna go driving it hard and its destroying the engine in anyway .. sorry for being paranoid as its my first engine conversion ..i just wanna know if its ok to roll before i go a proper blast

    Re: Does this look ok?

you need a pic showing where all the pipes on the carb going off to the left side of the first picture go. Also make sure that the pipe stringing off to the AEI can't leak - it looks like you've used windscreen washer hose...

    Re: Does this look ok?

looks reasonable to my untrained eye...

    some comments from me:

    - as mentioned previously, ensure the pipe to AEI can't leak, if it does you will det your engine.

    - consider some kind of heatshield around the brake fluid reservior, the GTT one is mounted remote for a reason.

    - is your turbo elbow blocked? I can't see anything screwed into the back of it.

    Re: Does this look ok?

Yeah turbo elbow is blocked by a wheel stud ..we have just cut the end off.

Thanks for the advice on my brake resevoir ..ill get something made up for it

and the aei pipe ..i can sort that no problem ..i have plenty of silicone hose.

Apart from that ..is it good to go? ..i was told that the vaccum side of my carb aint setup properly by a member on here ..he said my carb wont fuel properly on boost ...this is the reason for this post ....i dont wanna go damaging things .. would this just be my aei pipe?

Im a newb to this as you can tell

Edit - there is a thermostat in the top hose

By the way... it's probably better to run the water hose that goes from the water pump to the bottom of the header tank underneath the carb boost pipe imo...

Apart from a good tidy up () its looks ok to me mate, many cars have been plumbed up like that before.

Everyone has a different way of doing it, i do it a few ways too depending on actuator used and carb top design.

You have something missing on ze carb...

The brass coloured nipple on the passenger side should have a pipe connected to it...

Probably also a good idea to strip your carb and buy a service kit... this way you can give every little bit a thorough clean and you can also check your jet sizes...

vacuum side looks good, the only bit I can't see for sure is whether the pipe from the fuel pump is into the side of the reg, and the return to the tank is in the bottom.

silicon vac hose will leak at the joints at around 14psi, always use a tyrap or something to hold it tight.

you need a second hose clip to hold the stat in place.

no it doesn't, you can leave that open. Originally it would have a pipe to the carb top.

edit, passenger side just has a pipe out to the road, I'm talking about the one on the driver's side (this is the UK, driver sits on the wrong side)

    Re: Does this look ok?

    functionally you should be there.

Reliability wise, the rat's nest nature of the installation may give you problems, the biggest risk being fire. Make sure that you're happing with the condition and fitment of the fuel lines, and that they can't rub on stuff. Also check your wiring, that the thick cable to the starter motor, and the alternator can't rub and short out.

It looks like you have nylocs on the manifold studs, they will melt and come undone. Always remember that the manifold, turbo and manifold can glow red, don't let them melt stuff.

Beyond that, have fun, and build the boost up in small steps, that way you're likely to spot any problem before you do any real damage.

at the carb side..or where ive attatched it to the bulkhead?

If so im replacing the whole pipe with a silicone pipe ..rather than a random pipe i found in a box
