    Hello

    First post!

Hi all, just got back to my R5 after about 5 years off the road.

Got a 1989 Raider, in bits. Does anybody know if there are any R5 specialists in North East England (Newcastle/Middlesborough Etc) have looked right through the contacts section and only garages etc are down south. Any people you can recommend would be helpful

    Cheers

    Graham

Needs Engine Recon, nothing wrong just done 165,000 miles and oil pressure going. Need gearbox recon, 2nd gear gone

And some body panels (door and rear hatch)

Plus i'll prob need some help putting all back together as its been 5+ years since I took it all apart so i'm bound to have forgot, or be missing summit

    Hey mate

How much shoud I be expecting to pay for a complete engine, gearbox and turbo recon and where is the best place locally to get that done.

I know it sounds like an overkill but if im spending the amount of money on the car that I plan then I want everything to be 100%. I dont want an exchange either as the engine and gearbox are the originals from the car, and we have owned it from brand new, want to try and keep it original as possible

    Thanks

    Re: Hello

165k is good going, keep at it. Don't crack it open until you HAVE to imo. The engine in my coupe has done over 150k. A lot of which have been hard miles (constant 6k+ revs). It chucks the odd puff of oil out the exhaust, but as long as it's still singing, it aint getting touched

    btw, welcome to the club

There's a fair share of experts up north, as Matt says. Experts in what though, no one knows.....

Cheers peeps, i dunno what to do now. I defo need to get the gearbox sorted as havin no second gear tends to give some problems. I might just buy a second hand one and see if I can take on the gearbox at my own pace. As for the engine well . . . it might be ok, it has been stood for 4 years tho so could just drop sump and give a good clean and check for little critters, what do you guys think? Like I said there was F all wrong with it or the turbo when I took it outta the car, any must do's if engine been standin for that long?

Whatever happened to BTTuning they used to sell a kit for around £350 to recon your engine with all the bits you needed. I've looked all over the internet and as yet cant find anybody thats doing such a kit

    ???????

We'll see how it goes when I go to pick up the thousands of bits that make up my R5
