Cant stand to see her like this

    Hi guys

My car still has a hole in the roof from when i took out my old rusty electric sunroof, she is filling up with water when it rains and is mouldy, i cant stand to see her like this but ive come to the conclusion that it is impossible to cover and fill the hole.
Does anyone know where i can find an electric sunroof or a new roof for a gt turbo that isnt going to cost the earth?

Im pretty sure most electric sunroofs will be different as the where dealer fitted. best thing to do is Totally seal it up. get some perspex or something. have a tiny little slide in it like ya see on track cars.

Either that or weld in a new roof panel.

the 205 boys all remove sunroofs, then get a peice of ali plate cut up so it sits about a inch all round, rivit and bond it in. Jobs done. Failing that you could weld in a non sunroof skin but certainly more work.

I had the same problem with a leaking electric sunroof, tried to get seals but no luck so decided to rip it all out. I took everything out and was left with a big hole with the sunroof rim still in tack, then got a sheet of metal and cut to the hole size. Found some of that mecano metal with all the holes in, braced the sheet metal with this and screwed into the original sunroof fixing points. To finish it off i used Stixaflex to seal and make it look nice than gave it a lick of paint and touch a BIG bit of wood its never leaked If i get home in time will post up a few pics, the outside is nice but the inside still needs some TLC.

New roof skin. Bodge something over the hole for now though, Its just daft leaving the inside open to the elements...

depends at the end of the day on size of pocket, and use of car, if the car is a minter then yea roof skin for sure, but if you are tracking it or if its only a daily spec like mine, id have second thoughts about forking out on a new roof skin, plus welder willing to take it on, and then having it all sprayed, but at least now your diffrennt choices are outlined.

Given that Yammer is letting the rain fall into his car unattended, you're probably right

Re: Cant stand to see her like this

    Thanks for all the reply's,
I have covered the hole with plastic and a car tarp, but water still seems to be getting in, i think its all the acid rain around my area lol
The car is a state, always has been, but i know this sounds a tad gay, but i made a promise that id make her nice.
The trouble is spending hundreds on fixing the roof is just not worth it, and more money than i have tbh, so i was hoping for a fairly cheap solution.
The problem with getting a new normal sunroof fitted is that the roof without the big metal box electric sunroof that was riveted to all 6 pillars in the car, is the roof on is own is about 1/5 of a cm thick, its shockingly thin, it sags down now and thats without any weight on it other than itself.
And the same go's for a metal plate, the plate would somehow have to be attached to the flimsy roof, but mainly somehow attached to the pillars or the sides of the roof with some braces of some sort, underneath the plate.

if you wanted to make it look both cool, diffrent, and probably not cost as much as havinga new skin welded in , why not look at having a carbon fibre roof skin bonded, i thnk you are looking around £400

I used the fixings for the elec sunroof to brace and put in the metal plate, the roof was a bit flimsy but had no bracing to the pillars thats why i left the outer rim in the roof to give it something rigid to bond the sheet to

I was going to suggest the carbon skin, i've seen it on an Escort and it looked brilliant... but not so brilliant if you're on a budget.
I think the brace and plate idea is the best so far for a temporary fix
