Intermittent - Engine flooding and cutting out/wont start

1990 Raider was running like a clock then tonight it happened again I've an intermittent problem with fuel flooding - ends up in car not starting and when it does it running on 2/3 cylinders happens when battery level is low / happens when cold ..

only thing i can think of is the carb ..

    distributor ok
    plugs ok
    leads ok
    fuel feed ok

    any ideas welcome - thanks

Might be worth whipping the carb off and taking a quick look. Check the float and the needle valve operation. Fuel regulators are usually reliable but worth checking especially the fuel return to the tank incase of a blockage.

Maybe you have a piece of crap floating around in the carb intermittently and partially blocking fuel flow?

if ur not running it everyday and just pushing it around then it needs a good run.....the plugs will blacken!
start the engine without the elbow and see if the fuel is dripping in (needle and jet or FPR....OR BOTH) THE car is at an age where it could be the reg

Andy, Carb kits available from the club shop and there's a 'how to' step by step article on rebuilding the carb.

If you haven't already get an AFR gauge so you can actually tell what's happening with the fuelling. Will
be a big help when trying to get things spot on.

Don't say it like it's the end of the world, it's not a bad job and it's a great opportunity to get to know your car better
