RTOC Stance

Hello Folks,

Not being alarmist or nowt, but have you guys read about potential new
legislation around classic cars?

As some of our cars creep ever closer to being "classics", some like us would
probably say "iconic", is it time for RTOC to be represented on bodies that can
have some clout? Is that something you have previously discussed, and if so,
what positon are you (we?) taking?

I imagine all we need do as a club is send some kind of supportive communique to the FBHVC:

Either that or join up with whatever is the biggest social media vehicle at the time, if and when the wheels ever get moving on this.

Can you imagine the endless difficulty in trying to police this? Determining what actually constitutes 'historically accurate', and whether or not it's even possible for owners to achieve such given the spare parts situation.

The alternative is to vote leave in April. That would bring about a resolution to the problem.

Nothing will qualify as historic and old cars will be banned from more and more areas and uses.

Eventually they may insist that old cars must have new engines.

Somehow the corporations and their minions will ensure old cars demise.

The bit I find difficult to swallow is the content of this...

“It all comes down to definitions,” said Conservative Member of European Parliament Daniel Hannan. “There is currently an opt-out for ‘vehicles of historic interest’ provided they are more than 30 years old, are no longer in production, have not been updated or overhauled and are ‘never or hardly ever used on public roads’.

...the operative words of concern being "updated or overhauled" In terms of emissions,
surely a properly maintained engine (by means of overhaul) is the better option..?
Sometimes, you hear statements from people that are "bullpoop trying to baffle brains",
though I do believe we have a right of input into this debate.

Interesting find, ideally in the long run perhaps they want to phase out fossil fuel powered vehicles, however I doubt that there is a considerable amount of people running 25/30 year old plus cars as a daily most appear to be occasional use.

The point is that they want to ban their use in low emission zones.

No-one will be allowed drive their 5 in, eg, London, at all.
