I was thinking of buying some top mounts for something cheap like a 200sx and cutting the tops off the turrets and just welding new tops on.
Your way is probably a little bit easier lol.

On the left is the sleve that came with the bearings, the right is a sleeved nut I had turned down on a lathe to suit the bearing to give the most amount of grip on the thread of the shock.
As far as price goes, barring any problems once I've done the testing, should be £120 a pair, not cheap I know but no more expensive than the other top mounts with holes round the outside.
As for when they'll be ready, I want to make sure they work and are safe before I start selling them, last thing I want is a failure and someone's wheel coming off mid corner.
Oli, what's the internal diameter of the Bearing? That's the problem I had when looking for a Top Mount, but I'm using Leda Struts with M14 x 1.5 thread. What's the std GTT Strut thread type?

The TAS top mounts that were available many years ago for phase 1 suspension struts used the following size spherical bearing.
The SKF bearing would be an upgrade over the cheap bearing they supplied http://www.skf.com/uk/products/beari...odid=183312017
Internal diameter is shown as 17mm, hope that helps

Bearing internal measures 18mm
Thanks Lewis and Oli, 18mm ID is a decent size to get some meat on a Sleeve Nut. I think mine are closer to 16mm, which is a bit too small and why Nut will sit on top. Sleeve Nut is the better arrangement.
I went for a sleaved nut more for the fact the Avo's don't have enough thread to get the top nut on otherwise, I figured the sleaved verity would stand a better chance of staying put
OK chaps, small update, I've got a pair of sleeved nuts and a method of spacing the spring retainer and lower section of the top mount.
A couple of hours cleaning up my struts, wire brushing down the rusty threads and regressing everything to make sure everything is free to work properly.
The top mounts are now fitted and adjusted, to give me 2.5 degrees of negative camber, tomorrow evening I shall give them a thorough test on a nice twisty road near me.
With any luck all should be good, the next step after that is with the help of a mate, test them on a ph2 gtt and make sure they give the appropriate amount of camber, after that I can start getting sets made up for those who want them.

As mentioned before its gonna be about £120 the pair, this will include the mounts and sleeved nuts, however I Can only get the nuts with a M14x1.5 thread, I know this the thread for Ago coilovers and factory gtt struts, no idea what thread Gaz, Koni or other makes use.
Well that was the first round of testing haven't gone wellunfortunately due the must more regide top mounts have exposed a problem with my coilovers, without maintaining the factory bearings and bushes the top spring locating cap has far too much play in it, as a result the slightest bump in the road results in a disturbing rattle.
I've got to go back to drawing board and work out a way to maintain as much of the factory top mount as possible.
If only My Avo coilovers had more thread at the top, none of this would be a problem :/

Not at the minute, I need the car tomorrow so I've had to put all the OE mount back on :/

When I thought of making some I'm sure I put the std bearing on top of the spring and just sat it up against the underneath of the top mount and it worked well.
But I'm sure you've tried that lol, so not much help.
The Top Hats I've got for my 2.5" ID Springs are actually a 'floating' design, with their own needle roller bearing so they can still turn when they're sat up against the Camber Plate base.
I'm not sure how this will work in practice as I haven't fitted mine yet with this configuration, but the manufacture says that they run this style on their rally cars and it works well. They also say that they get 3 x the life of the Camber Plate bearing as it doesn't see as much load.
Time will tell.

I've got my suspension out and am doing some work on my front end so nowwould be a good time for me to fit some if they're ready?
The top mount design is complete but I haven't had a chance to work out a method of seating the spring properly underneath the bearing due some trouble with my back :/
And the chap who was gunna try them on his ph2 to make sure they give enough adjustment has just had his first baby so is way too busy to help :/
