Am i asking to much of a R5

Ok here is how it stands, i work 7 miles away from home, therefore i rely on my car 5 days a week. currently i am using my 1.9 205 gti which is fine 90% of the time, however i need to take the car off the road for a month or so, therefore i am going to be running my r5gt which is running a t2 and will be around standard. Should i be ok to rely on my r5 to not let me down most of the time, i like to think i do lok after cars and certainly wont be thrashing it.

How long's a piece of string?!

What condition is it in mechanically? Be sure to give it a full service before you use it as a daily.

In standard form, they are a very reliable car. My bro uses his every day to work and back 30 plus miles.

yeah but your mates are idiots.

    headgaskets dont just go.

People think Renault 5 GT Turbos are unreliable because the only experience they have of them is seeing them owned by chavs.

The 5 unfortunatley was soo easy to turn up the boost on. So that why headgaskets pop coz idiots **** thier cars.

Realistically a 5 is only as reliable as its owner. For instance many 5s are now owned by people who know a bit bout them.

My mate bommer once said that even if a 5 breaks down if your an enthusiast it will be back up and running in like an hour.

Now if you freelander breaks down your not gunna see it for days. Therefore a 5 (motd daily driver) spends less time off the road.

I have had my GT for two years and i use it daily doing about 14000 miles a year with a hybrid turbo and 18psi. I just keep on top of the problems and touchwood it has been reliable. At the end of the day its 17 years old so i expect problems

Re: Am i asking to much of a R5

i'm about to start using my clio turbo day to day i think, i work 6 miles from home, i'm mostly worried about it not being far enough to get up to proper temps etc and it being bad for the car that way lol. if its standard be reet, remember it is just a car, it may be old but when they were first used they were used as day to day cars so no reason cant be used same now

Re: Am i asking to much of a R5

ive done 6k in mine since july and ive just put the petrol in and nothing else. i think if its a sound motor generally youll be ok, i hoof mine quite a lot and it just keeps on going, mind i change the oil every 5k.

try to stay just about the 3k mark and the turbo is hardly spooling

that speech goes flying out the window when it comes to me i know 5s inside out and have had many many. rebuilt alot with no problems.......
but just this once i decide to do things abit!! just abit different and all im getting is fecking problems! I hate the fecking thing now and im gagging to just get it running sweetly as it should do so i can get rid and move on. i want rid but i cant face letting it go as an unfinished rebuild.
