I guess it all depends what bumper you've got and how happy you are to cut the cross member out.

This is the size I've got you only have to half cut the cross member.

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RACEBITS-L...item3a96f4c701

and this is the size im planning to buy over the winter. Will need the crossmember fully cut out and some for of custom bar made to replace it and support the cooler

What bumper you got Dan? T

here's a few company's on eBay selling that size cooler some are tube and fin others are bar and plate cores. From everything I've read the bar and plate one is the better one to go for.

Just a thought have you measured your inlet temps to see how the forge cooler is performing at the mo, you might be lucky and not need a new cooler.

    Re: intercoolers......big boy ones

This thread has got me rethinking my new intercooler now. Ive a toko-sports one off ebay which I bought for my old golf gt tdi. Its not a bad size, slightly bigger than the normal cosworth one people go for, but im now thinking, why not go for one like turboted as its cheap as chips, especially if im going to have to chop about anyway to get all the plumbing sorted out.. argh!

I think that small bit of grille would go well in red too.

Shame you had to chop out the lower section of the bumper but then what's the point putting a massive IC on if you're not going to get as much as you can out of it.

Black is not improving efficiency, black absorbs more heat so in turns cools the air less

It was already chopped bud the guy before me had a skyline one I think so it was never all there.. I just went mad with the angle grinder I'm all about the gash make it work lol I like a clean car but I'm not a perfectionist.. That comes later I'm all about using it daily to the max

    Re: intercoolers......big boy ones

Just watched the video, i have to say i'm flabbergasted by the results without airflow. Although i do think they have a few things wrong....

They call the 97 degrees of the black intercooler with airflow a negligible improvement while the silver one had a difference of 100 degrees, it could be me but doesn't that prove the black one is less efficient?

Either way, the difference with airflow is negligible which is exactly the moment when you need it, when stationairy, without airflow, the cooler doesn't have to be efficient as the air isn't heated up anyway....

Only way i can justify the results without airflow is black absorbs more heat so the difference between material and ambient temp is bigger resulting in more thermal relief

So if you ask me it all comes down to personal preference regarding colour but doesn't change anything mentionable regarding cooling efficiency when you need it most

Could also argue less boost at the start less spin. Cooler with the airflow at 100+mph it's going to be cooled by then.. Try it guys stick your head out the window see if it's cool.. Like you say it's down to preferance.. My thought was why did cosworth paint there's black for the sierras?

Then pant your face black and repeat to see if it feels cooler.

If you do make sure it's only a light dusting of paint. To much and your effectively insulating your intercooler.

I wasn't assuming anything or directing it at anyone dude. just wanted to mention that might come in handy for someone in the future that searches the boards.

But my mind is now wondering how many coats of paint will it take to have an effect on a intercooler. might play that game once I change mine if I can be bothered.
