Apart from it looks like only one bolt is hold the strut in place, these are supposed to be like that, only the phase one was centred to the hole.

Cool. Went down too Southampton today and saw mike sorted out a roof and some other little bits to be packed up and shipped up too Newcastle top bloke well worth the trip. Hopefully will get roof welded on next weekend and can start the body work on the meantime can get too work on the engine. Think the dents on the steering rack has been a failed rear mount in the past so will see what they are like when I get them off and clean up

Take plenty of pictures, as I might do a roof swap one year. I'm getting fed up of putting towels on my seats when I wash mine due to a leaky sunroof.

Just use some thin metal for the arch section in two parts panel weld style, job done.

    Re: First r5

As for the identations on the rack, possibly a sheared engine mount causing the lump to rock into it???

Well done for taking it on as a project buddy. I'd probably have steered well clear of that myself.

Can I just remove rear subframe
Without removing torsion bars just drop the lot also will the rear jacking points hold the weight for a few weeks/ months

The rear axle is all one piece. All you need todo is disconnect the brake hoses and handbrake cables then it's just four bolts and off it goes. Warning though, make sure you got some one inside the car with a spanner/socket holding the top side of the bolts or they will spin with the locater bracket and tear the thin metal of the shell.

Little tip, clean the threaded section that exposed on the underside as much as possible before starting as will be very stiff and take ages to unwind as pretty long bolts. Tapping thread kit good for this if have one to hand.

Was thinking that you shouldn't be drilling all the way through. Think you may find the spot welds under the rubber strip going round the boot.
