Brake servo overhaul, anyone done one?

    Hi everyone.

So after removing my car from my brake servo.....

I have come to look for a replacement, gt turbo spares have new for a shocking 475 quid and an overhaul kit for 85 quid.

I would rather not (due to the work involved in removing it) put a unknown second hand unit in its place so I think I will got for the kit.

My question is: has anyone done a servo overhaul? I thought the units were sealed?

Does anyone know of a cheaper new replacement like off a AX gt or whatever?

    Any pointers would be great.

    Cheers

    Adam

Just to add to the details, I'm having pedal issues doing strange stuff and feeling like pudding, I have hi spec 4 pots on the front and standard ms, rear brakes are standard but I have a manual rear bias valve fitted. Manual bleeding and bleeding using an easy bleed kit with still no joy. Ms is new, calipers are new.

    Cheers

I'd be looking at my options mate.

    1. Buy a new one for £475
    2. Buy a donor car for £500-£600
    2. Attempt to retro fit a clio servo to it (this is what I'd do)

You can buy a clio servo for about £50-£60.

Are you 100% certain it's the servo? What about the master cylinder?

    Hi mate

Yer when the problem first happened the first thing I changed was the master cylinder, so it's new. The Symptoms stayed the same.

However looking into the subject all over the net, I think the 172 cup servo and master cylinder will fit straight on. I think they have a larger internal bore size that will also help with the bigger capacity on the front calipers. Not that I had any issues before but whilst it's in bit I may as well upgrade. I hope I'm right and one will fit.

The servo is literally the only thing I haven't replaced. I'm getting pissed off with it all now, it's been going on for months and months.

Hi i have 4 pots on mine and standards calipers on the rear with 300 mm discs all round i ended up using a bigger mc to move the extra fluid for the bigger front brakes think its a 24 mm mc as apose to the gtt 19mm one. It seemed to have a much more positive pedal feel and stops amazing now could get the part number for the bigger mc if you want to try it.

I have been offered a servo and master cylinder from a local renault specialist breakers off a clio 172 cup for 30 quid.

Might be an option but would rather a new master cylinder for the sake of the cost and the work involved.

I can confirm that a clio 172 non abs vaccume servo does fit a renault 5 turbo, it's just very tight

The master cylinder is ok, but two of the brake line fittings are M12 and not the normal M10 in size.

    cheers
